Check to see if the evap. fan is running or if you have frost build-up on the back wall of the freezer. if so call a service company quick because the freshfood section is not cooling either; all the cooling starts in the freezer and transfer air via evap fan to the freshfood section. am are more subject to defrost t-stats going bad

Why are frozen bread items and small cups of ice cream thawing in freezer and not other things?

Ice cream requires a min. temp of 28 deg. you're most likely at about 30 or 31.

  1. make sure your air flow vents are free of ice in the freezer.
  2. turn up your temp control
  3. pull out fridge and clean and vac the rear coils and the motor area. make sure to clean the fan blades
this should do it mike

Freezer will not freeze ice ceam

Before you go any further it is important that you check for freezer temps. Yes, you have frozen items but remember that water freezes at 32 degrees and many items will get hard at that temp. And also remember that the lower the temp the longer frozen items will keep.

But ice cream needs proper freezer temps close to zero degrees. Use a digital thermostat and check for your freezer temp - bet it it is no where near zero. I had the same problem and attributed it to the fact that I was not using a name brand ice cream!!!! I was wrong ! LOL.

Amana BR18 fridge/freezer. Fridge is cool but not cold, freezer is at about 20 degrees. Ice cubes are frozen but ice cream is soft. Any ideas?

you maybe blocking the circalation in the freezer the way you have things packed in there. Move large items away from where the cold air blows in.

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

Freezer seems as if it is not cold enough

Your sensor is packed in ice and giving false reading (always frozen)

You NEED to defrost. Will take 2hr

Turn off or Pull plug on freezer
Take everything out and put in cooler, brown bags, large bin or boxes to stay cold
Defrost by setting large pail of boiling water in each side bottom of freezer and closing door(s) for 1/2hr
Open freezer, empty pails in sink and use pails to hold large chunks of ice from freezer that will come out easily
Toss out ice chunks
Check sensor to be sure it is no longer packed in ice
Wipe down interior dry
close doors
plug in
wait 1/2hr
reload with stuff you want to keep
Done!

Bottom freezer not keeping ice cream frozen

Check out freezer temp - should be around zero degrees. Fact that ice maker is still working would indicate that the temps are at least about 10 degrees. If the door seals are tight and the self defrosting mechanism is working properly, the unit may be low on refrigerant. I had similar situation where stuff was frozen but my ice cream was mushy even though unit was running 24 hours a day.
