Question about Whirlpool Duet Sport HT WFW8400TE Washer

1 Answer

AI'm renting a place and have a Whirlpool Duet Sport front loader - last night it was in the final stage of a CASUAL wash cycle and it started making this HORRID noise, so I ran to it and hit the "pause" button and it was giving me the F1 code. So of course, I finally got the door unlocked and pulled out the clothes, they were rinsed and spun well. So I read up and unplugged it for the night. This morning, it's SPITTING water from the soap/softener area. The landlord has this thing so squished into a closet I don't see any panels to open but no longer have the F1 code yet it's doing the same thing. Help?

Check around the edge of the boot to see if anything stuck. You mus remove the spring around the boot to front panel and pull boot out of it'd groove. On the left side you will see the end of the tube coming down from the dispenser. Check to see if something is blocking it. I found a thong inside this tube one time.

I have cleaned the seal out but I can't find the spring - I think the boot is the seal around the door? First it gave me the F-1 code after making a ton of noise in the spin cycle. After doing some research, I saw a lot of people saying they had F22 code which is the door lock malfunction. I don't know how to get to the tube to clean it and the guy who owns the place didn't leave the user manual, I cannot find it online and on top of it, he has the machines crammed into a space that's so small they barely fit. I got it to stop spitting the water out ONLY if I run it on HOT setting. It still sounds like a fighter jet is landing when it goes into the spin/rinse cycle and the cold water makes it to the tub somehow during that cycle but if I run a "rinse" cycle alone or run a full wash on cold, the water still spits out. I just wish I could figure out where that hose is located to try to see if a small sock or underwear are stuck because I'm sure it's that problem and with him out of town and loads of laundry to do, I'm screwed.

He's also the type that if it is something stuck in the tube, he's going to make me pay the repair bill and these machines have constant problems. Whatever happened to the old reliable machines? UGH! Thanks for posting a solution - hope you can help me get to the spring?

I should also add that it's not taking the fabric softener during the rinse cycle so I'm CONVINCED this is a blockage of the hose.

Both water temps come in the same outlet to the drum so either temp would cause the splashing . The cold water may be plugged a bit causing low pressure to the dispenser. The spring is on the outside lip of the door seal or boot. If you get down on the floor and look up at the centre of the underside of the outer lip of the seal you will see the spring. It goes all around the outer edge in a groove. The majority of the spring retainer is just a wire hoop with a spring in the middle . As for the noise if it stars as soon as the washer starts to pump I would check the drain pump trap accessed when you remove the lower front panel. If the noise builds as the speed of the drum increases it may be the rear bearing (very expensive),

First check your washer plug to see if the connections are tightly screwed. Next check your filter if you haven't for long.

Remove the 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel under the washer door. Your filter door will be light brown. If you find a hose there it is to drain out excess water (water that could not be drained by your pump) After you hv drained unscrew the cap and remove all the junk inside. Have a large plastic bag to catch junk and water. Refit carefully after cleaning out. If not solved, something shd be blocking your pump, check this out

I have a Whirlpool duet HT front loading automatic washer, it's not draining & last time it did this a repair man came and showed me how to get underneath and drain it, but I don't remember how

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Whirlpool Duet front loader to clean out the trap:

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at:

Prices vary between these sites, so shop all of them for the best deal.

NOTE: Make sure you also check the drain hose and the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. Small articles of clothing can commonly get lodged in this area.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
