Question about Navman Tracker 5505i Color Chart Plotter 5" C-Map Max by GPS Receiver

3 Answers

Gps fix We have a 5505i situated under the window of our wheelhouse on our boat. Several times a day, we can lose our fix. Most times, we can turn the unit off, and then turn it on, and it would find the fix straight away. But then you have to reset the 'go to' again. At other times, the fix takes 20 to 45 mintues to re-establish a fix. Most inconvenient at times when you are manuvouring around islands, rivers, etc. I have tried to contact Navman Australia, but have been unable to get them either on the phone or by email.Have you any suggestions? Can I attach an external GPS mouse to my unit, like the one I can use for my computer.

You need to connect a external antenna to your unit which will be out side on the boat which will give proper signal to your unit ,IT may resolve the problem

Do you have anything interfering with that signal, like a solid mass of metal?

We set it up and ran it before installing it on the very top of our new boat. It was running fine for a day or two. Then the next time we turned it on we got a error code 6. What does it mean, and how do...

I would get on the Mfg. website, customer service dept. and tell them the problem. They are usually very helpful and you may be able to download a solution on a laptop, wireless computer, then take it to your boat and upload into the GPS. It's worth a shot.

My Raymarine C 120 GPS intermittently stops working.

I had to replace a GPS antenna unit with cable. Sometimes, during bad weather or strong sun, I lost FIX on satellites. Cleaning the top of antenna did not help. Unit from Ebay was also a junk. Get a new one after testing display on a friend boat.

I'm on my second nuvi 255w. As before this ine has

I am in the same boat as you.. I am on my 2nd 255w unit as well. The first one lasted 2 weeks. This one about 45 days. The thing I noticed, which may be coincidence, is I updated the software and map a couple days prior on each unit before problem occured. Last night the 2nd one lost satelite for about 5 hrs, an area I deliver pizza's in everday with no other problems. No mountains, no tall buidlings, yet I decided then to power off unit completely, stand outside and turn unit on. I waited about 10 minutes then put 255w back in vehicle in which at that time still was not working. But 30 minutes later when I got back into vehicle it was working again for the rest of the night. Not sure if standing outside corrected or not, but it is working again. I would be curious to know if the software update and map update plays a part in the problem.

Look after the antenakabel if the kabel is a little bit broken water coms inside thae kabel an the signal gets lower.

Our e120 has no boat recognition. We cannot make it find our boat in order to use it.

Do you have fix on the GPS?
Have you selected "find boat" and not "cursor" (bottom left button under the screen)? If you'r still stuck try a master reset (factory reset) by going into the menu and select system setup - factory reset.

My garmin nuvi 200w sat nav keeps losing the gps signal. I've done a manual reset and used the webupdater to ensure the software is up to date but still it keeps losing the gps signal

There are a few options for you...
1. Check to see under what kind of conditions the GPS loses it's signal. If there are tall buildings, is a cloudy day etc or even the position of the GPS in the car (does it have a clear sight of view of the sky)... In the latter case, you could change the position of the GPS where it gets a clear view of the sky. For Cloudy days, better have a map ready or preplan the route using mapquest/googlemaps, as nuvi 200 series is especially notorious for these type of situations. For tall building problems, what I do is (c330, not nuvi), just tap the route displayed on the top before the signal gets lost and memorize the next few upcoming turns. Or avoid downtown (where those huge skyscrapers are)
2. If you have enabled WAAS setting in the settings menu (it should be somewhere under "GPS mode", disbale/uncheck it and use the normal GPS mode. WAAS may provide you a more accurate position, but at the expense of some avaialble satellites.

3. Or your GPS may have a genuine problem, then your only recourse is to call Garmin and talk to them. Here's the contact info:

Good Luck. Personally I would avoid the 200 series and go with the 3xx, 6xx or even better the 7xx series (if you need all the bells & whistles)
