Bre carefull when using other than original ink in your printer.
The material used, is not the best (that's why the price difference), and end up clogging the small printheads.
I wish I had better news for you.

My black doesn't print. It wasn't printing anything, but since I used the "clean heads" application, it now prints faded black. Obviously a clog or something. WHat can I do?

Sounds like a very bad clog. Sometimes one needs to run the "clean heads" routine several times to really flush it out. That can use a lot of ink. Using an inferior grade of third party ink can cause this problem...but I'm not slamming third party inks, as I use them myself but am careful to get remanufactured cartridges, and not refilled ones.

Hope that's helpful.

My HP photosmart premium will not print black only, the page comes out blank. I cleaned the print head by soaking it in hot water, per an faq I found on the internet. when I put it back together, it...

Seems like the ink you are using is bad. It is thicker than what it is supposed be. If you are using HP ink, make sure it is not expired. If you are using a refilled ink or remanufactured ink cartridge, buy from someone else, not where you bought it last. You will need to clean printhead again. Also, to avoid this problem in future, the issue may be that there is too much ink gnk inside the printer. Where the printhead should sit on standby, the ink waste builds up. Clean that area with a butter knofe or plastic knofe. You may not have that issue of drying ink come back for a very long time.

Compatible inks v genuine HP inks?

Generally speaking the remanufactured carts have a lower capacity than the hp counter part. Otherwise they usually don't leak unless you go really, really cheap on it.

Hp c7820 printer 02 black catridge

Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention to areas with copper contacts. Keep in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double check that the ink is correct against the manual or written instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape or color of the cartridge. Not every cartridge that fits the printer necessarily works.

Printer goes throught the motions of printing, but what comes out is a clean page - no ink

Some of them do. Try going into the printer properties and disabling bi-directional support. This will not allow the printer to check. HP has set some printers to not function if its disabled, but hopefully yours is not one of them.

How do I reset the ink levels?

We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.
