The backlight isn't user-serviceable. The inverter might be, but I can't find any parts based on your model number. Are you sure you entered it correctly here? "ln3238d"?

You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works..

Good luck..

I have a Toshiba 42inch LCD TV, model # 42LX196 that is just a little over a year old. The picture went out suddenly, and would only come back after unplugging and re-plugging in the TV. This happened...

I think you should call Toshiba and ask them for assistance. I am no expert on TV's, but i think that would be your best bet on how to repair and found out what happened to your TV. Call them at 1-800-631-3811. Hope this helps. :)

TV turns off because of air flow

It is probably a bad temp sensor inside the TV. My 73" started shutting down before it was a year old. I moved it way out from the wall and it got a little better. A tech was just out to change the bulb under an extended warranty and he said there is a service bulletin about the temp sensor. If your TV is out of warranty you might call Mits and see if they will cover the sensor replacement. Tech said it takes about a 1/2 hour in the home to change it...

Tv won't come on

The TV does not turn on and stays in standby because it is gone in protect mode, this happens when the TV main chipset detects that there is an internal problem, sugh as a wrong voltage, a capacitor that had blown, a defective integrated circuit, or any other internal fault.

Try leaving the TV unplugged a little longer, to drain power completely, just in case the protection circuit is stuck in error mode.

If the TV does not restart after leaving it unplugged overnight, that means that there is an internal fault, and something inside TV must be replaced or re-soldered (bad joint).

You can call a technician using the phone number printed on the owner manual, or checking on Hitachi website, or letting us know your location.

Calling the factory or the seller you can also ask the price for a warranty extension.

A warranty extension will cover any repair for the next year in case the original warranty is expired.
A warranty extension is oten less expensive than a single repair job.

Picture gone from TV Model LE46M51B

I suspect that your backlight has gone out. If you shine a light on the screen can you see remnants of the picture that should be displaying? If so, it's definitely the backlight, and most likely the power inverter for the backlight. You can probably find a replacement inverter, but you may need a repair manual to install it. I'd recommend checking the warranty status first and sending it in for repair if you can.

My set switches from low lamp to bright lamp on its own constantly

I just got mine back from the shop withe a similar issue. The picture would dim especially with dark scenes and you could actually hear the lamp popping and clicking. It was not consistent enough that I had to video tape the issue for the technicians. In short, they decided that the ballast was faulty, unfortunately, the only way to replace the ballast is to replace the entire light engine. The part is about $320 and they also replaced the lamp for $150. The extended warranty would have only covered parts I believe so you may have ended up OK.
