Coupler needs replaced, just make sure you have the model# and serial# as the length makes a difference. You will need to turn off the gas, then remove the glass plate and a couple more screws and the coupler is out. Good Luck Tim

What pilot light assy. do I need to buy for model# 640y0rt4, water heater ??? please wont stay lit

check that the flame sensor is clean. It would be a stiff piece of wire that would sit right over where the pilot lite is. If it is dirty...it wont sense if there is a flame....and if it dosnt sense a flame....it wont let the pilot lite to turn on.

My mr heater wont stay light unless its above 3. It only stays on about 5 min then pilot goes out. It is gas heater. What's wrong with my heater?

Theres a thermostat inside, if its too cold and not warming up the thermostat enough it will shut off because it thinks there is a problem.

Goldair gas heater ignites but when release knob flame dies

i had the same issue. there is a "right way up" safety device right at the bottom, just behind the gas bottle that detects if the heater is standing up and not fallen over. mine is back and plastic with 2 lugs attached to it.
when i replaced my last gas bottle i must have knocked this device and it broke the bottom of this device off, opening the switch from the bottom. the heater now thinks it has fallen over and it wont burn. i used a little heavy tape to fix the device. Device works with a large ball bearing that uses gravity to close a little switch, if the switch is closed then it is the right way up and it will burn, if the switch is open it wont burn.

My heater wont light. i can light it with a tourch, but it wont stay running

the thermocouple that senses the flame is defective and won't keep the gas valve open to operate the unit, ace hardware carries most thermocouples, check them out, just get the right size that goes into the gas valve and make sure the sensing bulb is positioned within the flame for proper operation

Propane heater wont stay running

is the sensor for the thermocouple located in the right spot in the flame, remove it and if you have access to a propane torch, heat the end till its red hot and leave it connected to the gas valve, then start the unit and this will tell you if the sensor is properly positioned in the pilot flame on the unit itself,if not you could have a defective new thermocouple or another safety device keeping it from staying lit or the gas valve is faulty

Pilot light wont stay onfor outside pool heater. Gas co made a service call & relit the pilot light it went out again 4 days later.

There is a thermo couple that keeps the gas on. The pilot light bracket has a small screen where the gas comes through that can get clogged and cause the pilot light to burn away from the thermo couple which would cause it to think the flame has went out and shut the gas off. Or the thermo couple has went bad itself. If you try cleaning the screen use canned air and gently blow it through the orfice once you have taken it off. If you don't know what a thermo couple is or looks like here's a picture of a generic one that will give you an idea. Usually there's a bracket that holds this in place. f1b528a.jpg

My propane fireplace pilot light wont stay lighted help

Most gas valves have a flame sensor, which is a metal bulb at the end of a wire. The pilot light heats this bulb, and the valve stays open because there's a flame. If the flame has been out, you'll need to hold down the pilot light button for as much as two minutes after lighting the flame to allow the flame to heat the flame sensor up enough to keep supplying gas when you release the button.
