Howdy there! A very common issue is dried ink in the port and well. The well is the cartridge and the port is the printer where the ink should flow into it to be able to further print. Take a cotton ball or qtip and lightly dust it will alcohol and them wipe both items. This will release and clean the ink ports to allow the flow once again. it is not a bad idea to do this after a few pages print as well, great maintenance for the printer. PLEASE let me know if this does not work and we can go deeper into the issue! pleasure to assist you today, take care..... Guy :)

I have a all in one color LC61 printer, do all colors have to be filled to print blk only?

Greyscale is color not black only.
You can print in black and it will look grayscale only darker, printers are a pain to work with after a year has gone by, I can expect almost a half hour to print something with my $400 epson because one of the colors is out even though I never printed in the last year a colored page. I take the color cartirges out and they are empty, but I only print a page 2-3 times a year. I use the scanner all the time. Brother and epson have their print heads in the printer not the cartridge so make sure your inks are always have something in it or it will be miricle for the printer to last more than a year. Check colors every other week. One Epson printer only lasted 3 months because I never used it(print head dried up). Never use the set up with tubes running outside printer to small tanks of ink if you only use it occationally.

Ran low on inks on my mfc-990cw and after replacing them now all show full levels but when printing black does not show. ZTried cleaning feature but did not help. Still no black

me too. Brother tech said bad printer head. cost of replacement (only when bad after one year and 3 month) the same value as a new printer.
so, I use it as scanner and telephone. but still not using the printer it comsume all the ink, so it asks you to put new ink in the printer..... waste of $$$$
Will trough it to the garbage!

Havent used my printer in about a year, i have changed out all inks and used printer cleaning function for printer and ink, i have no print is my printer dried out or is there something else i can try

The problem is that the print color heads nozzles are blocked through lack of use and putting new ink cartridges will not unblock the ink nozzles. Inkjet printers needs to be use at least once a week to prevent nozzles from blocking up.
You need to replace the print-head with a new one.
NOTE print-heads are not cheap, it maybe cheaper to get a later model printer.

Does not print properly-even after installing brand new cartridge

most likely your ink nozzles have clogged up.
try several cleanings, if it still does not work, you probably have to get the printhead replaced.

I had that problem and overcame it. I think I let it clean a few times and eventually, it worked. I think I also removed/replaced the cartridges.

Not printing

I can tell you all without a doubt in my mind you all have been using "cheaper" inks, wont matter a bit now if you put real brother ones in, it is too late the contaminated, incorrect ink type or particle size ink, is in the veins(ink tubes) of your printer and have reached the head which is now blocked. You cant fix blocked brother heads, and they are too expensive to replace.

You don't notice you stuffed your printer with dodgy ink till it is too late, sure they work sometimes, but what you find most of the time is that after a while about 1/8 of a cartridge of use, your new dodgy inks travel the veins until they inject poison into the head and stuff it forevermore.

Expect without a doubt in your mind any modern inkjet printer fitted with dodgy ink will not see 2 years old.

I see thousands of machines broken from block heads, the only old printers I've seen are uses of nothing but manufactures product.

I not selling you a machine, brand or supplies, just telling you how it is.

Refill and aftermarket ink will always cost not save you money.
unless you can find a supplier of such inks/toners to fix it free when it breaks from their supplies or guarantee you a refund of repair costs if found to be due to their product.
