The processor chip from the controller board has started to malfunction - it doesn't process the sensor data correctly from the get go. This is a "hardware" fault - the chip has aged and you can't fix that. The problem will only get worse, until the furnace will simply refuse to start over.
Don't wait till the middle of the winter, call a repairman now and have the controller board replaced. And no, it's not something you should do yourself, if you touch something you shouldn't you can easily fry some very expensive sensors.
