I ASKED THE WRONG QUESTION. MY EMACHINE DOES NOT SHOW THE BIOS MENU AT START UP OR AT ANY OTHER TIME. I NEED TO BOOT THIS COMPUTER FIRST TO MY DVD DRIVE INSTEAD OF THE HARD DISK. THE REAL QUESTION IS: WHAT KEYS OF THE KEYBOARD SHOULD I PRESS TO GET BOOTING OR SET?. MY DELL MACHINE USES F2 FOR SET Y F12 FOR BOOTING.

    THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE.

I don't know if you have two partitions or not. But here is what I would recommend (I have two machines set up this way):
Use Oracle VirtualBox--you can get it here: http://www.virtualbox.org/
The neat thing is that you can be running both systems at once and there is no need to dual-boot. You save a lot of time that way.

Whenever this happens to me and I don't know the key to press, I restart it and press DEL. and the function keys until I get the correct one! Doesn't the prompt appear on the screen at startup? Anyway, press those keys! The computer doesn't care how many times you try.

Right-Click "Computer", Manage, Storage/Disk Management. What you see here is what you have, or at least what Windows thinks is connected. If you have a missing hard drive, check your hard drive connections.

Deleted partition on asus eee pc900

If you set the bios to boot from USB. Place your USB Bootable stick into the USB socket and boot from it.
Windows will find the hdd and format it before putting Windows on it.
What has happened is the hdd name is missing from the system and it requires initializing before you can see it.

IF you have a Recovery Partition, you can do a Factory Recovery, returning the Laptop to the day it came out of the box. Take a look at the eMachine website for info on a Factory Recovery from recovery partition: http://emachines-us.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934

Trying to install windows 7 retail 64 bit on Scorpio (was installed once already started getting wonky so decided to format reinstall) boot with usb dvd rom drive get to unpacking of windows files and...

According to Microsoft, Windows 7 must be installed on a primary partition. This error code means the installer hasn't found a primary partition on the target drive. The primary partition must be on the first hard drive in the boot order, and if you have more than one user partition (not counting the small drive table partition), you must install to the first user partition. Unfortunately MS doesn't seem to have a clear, comprehensive answer to the issue. I've gleaned the following from various forum responses.

For some reason the installer is date sensitive, so make sure the time and date are correct in the BIOS. Time your next install attempt so it will NOT go past midnight during the installation.

Check your BIOS settings to make sure the drive is listed as a "primary" drive (drive 0, not drive 1) rather than a secondary.

Some people have had problems with the Windows 7 installer on drives that have the Master Boot Record from previous installations. Try a FORMAT /MBR using the Windows 7 install CD. If this doesn't work,
  1. Use the partition command to remove the target partition from the drive to wipe this out
  2. Partition the now unused space and reformat (again!), and
  3. If the partition command or installer has an option to set a partition as primary (or something else), choose primary (disk 0) for the partition you want to use for Windows 7.
If all else fails, use your HP Software Recovery CD to do a complete repartition and reformat. You could use the Windows 7 partition command to do the same thing, but then you would lose the HP System Recovery partition. However, if HP is marking the System Recovery partition as partition 0, it could be causing the problem. In that case, see if HP has an updated version of the CD that includes a fix for this, or do without it and turn it all over to Windows 7.

I just bought an little Hannspree SN10E288 with Linux. I can not install XP because all the partitions are unknown for Windows. What can I do for it.

Try the following, You need a bootable Windows CD/DVD for this
(1)Set your BIOS setting to boot from CD/DVD ROM first (before the Hard Disk or any other media)
(2)In order to set this priority resart your computer and as the first any information appears on screen start pressing "F2" and "DEL" keys swiftly and alternatively. A new screen appears....
(3)Look for "boot priority" and take the CD/DVD drive on top of the list. You need to experiment this a little because every PC BIOS has a different format to make these settings
(4) Insert your bootable Windows CD/DVD in your computer and boot from it.
(5)You will be asked to Press any key to boot from CD.......
(6)Press any key
(7)The Windows installation screen will appear.
(8)In the setup carefully select delete and select the partition where you want to install Windows.
You should have adequate space for Windows.
(9) Be careful do not touch the partition where the Linux is installed
(10) Once you have deleted the partition carefully Format it or make a Quick format.
(11)After that your Windows installation should start.
The rest is very intuitive......
Good luck!

I have toshiba a215 and i puted win 7 i hve 2 parttion hdd but it show only 1 partion how i make it show both partions

Windows 7 will only detect the other partition, if Windows 7, is the first operating system, on the first partition, if you have got 7 on the 2nd partition you will not be able to access it.
It is worth also checking "Computer Management" from the start menu, and under "disk management" ensuring the partition is formatted.

Problem with PC bios not booting

If you are Windows XP bootable CD with u,

first u restart ur computer and change the boot priority in the BIOS setup . Then insert the bootable cd and restart computer.

When some message comes in the screen, regarding bootable cd, press any key for installation,

It will take some time to copy installation files, then configure computer hard disk.

Then u have to agree the continuation of installation by pressing F8.
It will ask u either to repair or install Windows
press appropriate keys for that.
It will show the disk partitions and lets u with options of creating ,deleting paritions .
if u want a partition, then select any large partition and press C and type the amount of memory(in MegaBytes) u want for the partition
After finishing creating partitions,
select any partition and press enter for Windows installation in that partition. and select "format and install" option . It will format that partition and restarts . there is nothing to do more .
After restarting , it takes about 40min to install(times inversly proportional to the processor configuration), it asks for the serial /product key fo ur windows bootable cd, and some general settings about time, time zone, username, passwords etc.
After that , Windows would get completely installed.
Then insert ur motherboard CD for installing driver for (audio, graphics,LAN etc)

Then ur system is ready with Windows.
Ask me if u have any difficulty while installing...
