If a dual layer disc is not functioning, there is a problem with your laser. This is a frequent issue with Playstation 2 consoles. As a laser starts to fail, the first type of disc to stop reading is the dual layer disc. Eventually regular DVDs will start skipping in the middle of the game and loading times will increase. Eventually it will stop reading DVDs as well. The solution is a replacement laser. You can find one at the following website for $30 including shipping:
This a new patch that has fried some of the system. I work for sony and this has become a big problen. it is done when both the american edition of GTA4 and COD 4 are played after each other due to limitation factors. This however is easily fixed by getting a screw driver and flickintg a reset switch that is in the CD tray. This is a genuine method and is what is done at the replacment sector in sony.
When you play a new game for the first time, the psp checks for the
firmware version of your psp. If a newer version is available, the disc
will require you to update your psp. If you do not update the game
cannot be played. If you update, you MUST charge the battery 1st. Then,
you must have the charge plugged in and allow the update to run
uninterrupted. If you remove the game or unplug the charger during the
update the bios chip will be ruined and you now have little more than a
"brick". When this happens, the unit completely locks up and has to be
replaced. Basically, it corrupts the operating system and there is no
ability to restore default settings as a back-up.
