I am trying to watch an episode on the CBS site, but video is a little choppy. Is there a way to clear this up, or am I stuck with a slow processor?

Checked device manager and there are no issues.

Screen res is set at 1024 by 576 pixels which is on the "less" bar. I can not move it over to the "more" side though.

Choppy internet connection

If you are a frequent viewer of Internet-based video, then you know how frustrating it can be when streaming video doesn't play correctly. When a video is described as being "choppy," it can mean several things, including out-of-sync audio, stuttering frame rate and/or inconsistent stream speeds. However, although this term can mean several things, there are several ways to address all of these issues at once and help make your video viewing experience a bit smoother. Empty your Internet browser's cache and temporary files. Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Clear Private Data Now" (in Firefox) or "Delete Browser history" (in Internet Explorer). When you browse the Internet, your browser collects information from the websites you visit and carries this information as temporary and cache files. Too many of these files can bog down your computer, so delete them. Disable hardware acceleration. Open your computer's "Control Panel" and then click "Display." Select the "Settings" tab, click on "Advanced" and then click "Troubleshoot." Drag the hardware acceleration slider all the way to the left. This procedure can help reduce the strain on your processor, which can lead to choppy videos. Add virtual memory. If you are using Windows Vista or 7, you can add extra RAM to your computer by plugging a USB mass storage device into the computer. The operating system will automatically convert the unused space into RAM. Run your disk defragmenting utility. Click "Start" and then select "Programs." Click "System Tools" and then "Disk Defragmenter." This utility will eliminate the fragmenting of files, which could be taxing your processor. Movies/videos are choppy and unwatchable... Only problem with pc.

Try lowering your screen resolution, and don't download / view videos in HD. Test with lower like 480 and maybe 720. Mine can't even handle 720 by the way.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 24A. The videos that I run from YouTube and other such sites do not run smoothly. They are jerky/choppy. What could be the reason. Please do not tell give me complicate

Anytime your streaming videos are playing but not running smoothly, you either have a slow internet connection and aren't downloading fast enough to keep the data streaming OR you don't have enough RAM to keep up with the streaming data and everything else that's going on in the background. Check your internet connection speed first. If you have a good download speed then add RAM to your pc. (You could also try clearing cache on your browser)

Choppy Video? What do you mean choppy video? Is the video starting and stopping rather than playing continuous? If so, either you need more memory or the site you are watching the video from is slow. Also sometimes you line speed on the computer might be slow if you are watching the video online.

How does the video play if you played a DvD in your computer? If it plays the DvD without stalling, then your problem is more than like the site you are watching or the line speed as you stream the video.

Please check RAM memory size, it's recommended to have 1GB or more for video applications, RAM increase depends on how much your PC motherboard supports, and also a P4 processor or higher will do the job better.

Im trying to watch full episodes on cbs.com and they keep stuttering or skipping

Could be your internet connection. A slow internet connection can cause this. Test your internet connection at www.speedtest.org Try starting the video and then pause it...see if it continues to load on the progress bar. This will allow the show to buffer. Could be the CBS server also. Try watching the shows on a lower resoloution. Check and make sure your motherboard and video card drivers are up to date. Make sure a virus scanner is not running when you are trying to watch a show...that will slow down your computer.

Videos play slow and choppy but sound is ok

The video is choppy because your computer is not powerful enough to decode the video. The imac g3 was a great computer in its day but it was never designed to run the graphically intensive programs of today. OS 10.4 already places a lot of demands on an older machine. Adding youtube video only exasperates the problem as there simply isn't enough processing power or memory to run the pretty aqua user interface of OS 10.4 and decode video at the same time.

Adding more ram may help (256 MB is not very much these days) but truth be told I don't think you will see much of an improvement given the low power of the G3 processor. Sorry to say it, but if you want to watch flash videos (youtube) with any level of reliability you are going to have to look for a newer machine. You probably could find a used imac g5 for a good price on ebay or maybe treat yourself to a new imac. Rumour has it Apple will be coming out with a new model in the next few days (weeks) so keep on eye out for that if your thinking of buying new.
