Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

My WRT54G router has been functioning flawlessly for three years... until today. All of a sudden, neither my laptop nor my Blackberry don't see the wireless network... although the 2 PCs that are cable-connected to the router remain OK. Any suggestions? FYI, I've tried rebooting the router, to no avail.

If you have a modem unplug it then unplug your router, wait for 2-5 min then plug in your modem then router. It always seemed to work for me. If it dont work call Linksys.

It's thermal; protection is happening probably due to bad ventilation. Fuzz and dust can block air vents. These need to be vacuumed out now and then.

You can try the steps below and see if it will fix your problem.

1. Log in to your router interface by opening a browser. On the address bar type in http://192.168.1.1. ( this is usually the default address of linksys router)
2. Once you press enter, it will prompt you for a username and password.
Dont type anything on username and enter on the password box, the word admin.
3. Once your inside the router page, Click on wireless tab.
under wireless tab, change the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11. If the ssid is still linksys, change it to something different. After doing these steps, press save settings. TO save the changes you made.

My linksys router won't allo me to connect to the internet.

Well to be honest. The reason you keep having the problem is because your router resets itself every few hours. If your routers firmware was already updated by LInskys support and the same thing happens then you will indeed need a new router. Newer models and even the one that you have are all reliable the only problem in your case is most likely wear and tear. You have had it for a few years now hence most likely its degraded to a point that it resets itself which causes your problems so yes i would suggest you get a new one. YOu can get the latest WRT54G V8

This is just a problem with the wireless settings of the router, you can try first to reset the router by pressing the reset button for 20 seconds while power is ON and then after that you should be able to find the default wireless name of the router which is linksys, after you reset the router just need to reconfigure it back...
