Question about Liebherr K 4260 Refrigerator

1 Answer

First the ice maker wasn't making any ice - i dislodged some ice around sensors - after much beeping (with doors closed) and hitting every button on and off - the temperatures of both the refrigerator and freezer will not stay low i keep bringing to 36 and 6 (numbers before the event) and they keep going to 47 and 27. HELP! at least i got the alarm to stop going off but i would hate for all my food to spoil if it's not cold enough

Hello,

If your refrigerator is not cooling, the problem could be any of the following, follow the steps below one after the other to fix the problem of your refrigerator not cooling.

First of all, the most simplest thing to do is to check the temperature. It might have happened that the temperature control may have been turned off unknowingly, which is the reason for the problem. So if that's the issue, just set the refrigerator at 37 degrees and you are all set.

Poor coiling leads to a heavy frost build up on the evaporator coils. A frost build up, specially on the ceiling of the freezer, is a sign of problem in the self defrosting system or damaged gaskets of the doors. Therefore, check if the refrigerator is facing such a problem and defrost the refrigerator. It would not cool well if the defrosting is not happening properly.

A dirty condenser may be the culprit for your refrigerator not cooling well. What will happen in case if the condenser is dirty is that it will cut off the extra load. That work is done by the thermostat on the side of the compressor in case the refrigerator heats more than usual. To rectify this problem clean the condenser coils using the vacuum cleaner. These are either behind or beneath the refrigerator
In case the refrigerator is not leveled, that too can lead to the refrigerator not cooling properly, because if the level is not right, the door of the refrigerator may not close correctly, causing cooling problems. If this is the case, it might be necessary to ensure that refrigerator is at level and is slightly tilted back. Do some adjustment to get that correct level using a wooden block or see if the screws on the leveling legs need some looking into.

Check out the door seal. If the door seal is worn out, it will definitely result in frost build up and that won't allow the door to close properly, thus the problem of refrigerator not cooling. In addition to that there can be a problem in the door even if the level and other things are fine. You would need something to do about the door then. May be loosen the hinges and fix them in order to get the correct position of the door. Eventually tighten the hinges.

The food and freezer sections will go dysfunctional if the evaporator fan is not working properly. This is because then there will be no airflow to the freezer or the other sections of the refrigerator. Confirm if both the fans are working well by listening to the sound emitted by them. There is a possibility that one may work and the other wont. For that, may be you would have to look for a blockage or something in the one which is not working. Even after doing this you do not find any problem in the fan, you may need to replace it. This are are the general procedure for troubleshooting refrigerator not cooling. with all this, you should be able to identify and fix the problem.

Take care.

I have a GE Profile pfss6pkx. The ice maker has stopped making ice and makes a clicking sound. Do I need a new ice maker or is there something I should try first?

Hello Dave;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

1.) Press the test button while hold the bottom freeze light switch in. The light switch is in the front top part of the freezer. Observe what happens.

2.) Your ice maker will not work if unless you reach temperature. look in the back of your freezer wall. Is there frost or ice build up?

3.) Do you have ice on the bottom of your freezer section? Then you have a frozen drain, ice built up and can not reach desired temperature.

4.0 You have a non repairable ice maker. Sometime these flex types become jammed with a ice cube in the mold. Check this out.

5.) Your ice maker has a sensor. This may be bad, but I do not think this is the problem.

Get back to me on what you find from the above.

Continuous beeping

Either any door is not closed properly or door sensor is not working, its not sensing the door closed.Or the problem is no defrost. The defrost is causing over ice in fridge or freezer section.

Reset the refrigerator by disconnecting it from wall outlet for 12 hours, then reconnect and see if still the same problem is there.

On some cases its issue with fan not working. There are two fans, one in freezer section and one in fridge section. If either of the fan is not working the controls will flash.

Hoshizaki ice maker beeps when in the on position and will not make ice.

the number of beeps indicates that there is a specific problem. Need model and serial numbers and number of beeps. On some models, the control board has a small white reset button on it. Just push it and see if unit will reset and run.

A rubber piece fellout and there is a white wire hanging out.

This just happened to me.

The waxy piece has a clear plastic bracket, if its not connected, look around your freezer. The waxy piece fits inside the bracket, and attaches to the ice maker, just in front of the ice tray.

The white wire fits inside the waxy piece. It is the thermostat that tells the ice tray when to dump the ice.

This is impossible to feel around for, so you will need to remove at least the bottom freezer compartment as well as the ledge piece from just inside the freezer door. If you are a relatively thin/small person, you can extend the top tray fully outward, and slide underneath. Looking up at the ice maker, the plastic bracket should have a little prong. This prong will attach just behind the ice maker, with the thermostat facing the ice tray.

Ice maker is overflowing

Older icemakers have a bar that drops from above your ice bin; once the bin is full the bar is raised and trips turning the ice maker off so that it won't dump. If your's is this style, try manually pushing the free end of the bar upward so that it locks in the upward position. Newer ice makers with the ice bin in the door have a small panel that moves to the open position when the door opens and closes when the door closes. Mine also includes an optical sensor that is visible when this panel is in the closed position. Try placing a non-clear tape over the optical sensor (don't know if that will work or not but worth a shot). If effective in stopping the ice flow then call a repairman. If none of this works, turn off the water supply coming out of the wall to your freezer.

Snow building up around ice maker opening

Check to make sure the dispenser door is closing all the way and I mean ALL the way.
GE has had issues with the solenoid rusting out on those units and not letting the door close all the way.

Ice maker doesn't work

check to see if ice maker timer is working by running a piece of scotch tape from the arm to the case of the ice maker (make sure tape is just barely attached) then wait to see if tape is dislodged. if the ice maker is working, the arm will raise every 45 minutes or so, dislodging the tape. in this case the problem is most likely the water valve.(unless you can still get water from the door, then it's probably just that the line is frozen where it enters the freezer.) if the tape is not dislodged then you can either get a new timer for your ice maker(not always available) or just buy a new ice maker. either way you can get the parts you need here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/

Two issues

Well here is How I fixed My French Door Ice Maker, It made the same loud crashing sounds, and seldom put out much ice. To the point that it made no ice at all.

First, Make sure you can get water out of the front, if not, your water lines may be clogged.

The second thing you can do is hit the secret RESET button on the upper front side of the ice maker. See my first image for it's location, it is a soft rubber button.

The third thing.. In my case the reset button worked for a little bit. But eventually stopped. I had to remove the ice maker, and found that that several rows of ice had gotten stuck. The swinging arm that smacks the ice out would just strip the gears banging that ice to no avail. So opening the ice maker up and cleaning it out helped. I also cleaned the sensor contact with some alcohol. It is a thin metal strip close to where the gearing housing is. This I believe is ultimately where the problem starts. It allows the trays to get overfilled, and the ice can't be released. Once I cleaned out the tray of stuck ice, cleaned the sensor, plugged it back in, and hit the reset button once more, It was making loads of ice once again. If this fails, you can get a complete new ice maker online, I found a vendor on eBay selling it for a reasonable $80. You can use my pictures to see how to disassemble for repair ore replacement. My fridge by the way is the RF267AARS.

the part number is: DA97-05554A

It works with the following refrigerators
Samsung RF267AABP Samsung RF267AABP/XAA Samsung RF267AARS Samsung RF267AARS/XAA Samsung RF267AASH/XAA Samsung RF267AAWP/XAA

Whirl pool gold GD5RHA side by side.

We had the same problem and I AM NOT a repairman. I found that with a lot of freezer door opening, the rubber fill tube, which fills the ice maker tray, had frozen up inside the tube. I had already replaced the ice maker, and still no ice. I am sure a repair person will shudder, but I simple put a Phillips screwdriver up the tube and found the ice was not allowing the tube to refill the tray. CAREFULLY, use the tip of the screwdriver to dislodge the ice and clear the tube. These units do not cool or freeze quickly, therefore keep the doors closed as much as possible and don't let kids stand with the door open while they gaze into the depths while making their decision.
