If you need an operating system and would not mind using linux (an alternative to windows) look on the www.puppylinux.com site and see if you would like to try it. the download is about 80meg and it runs very fast on all the computers i have used it with. or try looking on softpedia for a free download of the outdated windows xp install disks. or you can buy some disks from ebay. but i reccomend trying puppy linux, it is free and you have nothing to lose.(the disk is a live boot disk, so it should just run off the cd)

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

not for 98SE i believe. a great OS but MS most likey deleted those from their servers long ago. if you can find someone else who has a system with 98SE you may be able to copy and install them from them. someone who is really old and smart "CE" maybe could program them:) for you but, you should have backed up your system and drivers before this repair was needed

Install windows 98se

SE should boot on it's own without the use of the floppies. Try it by changing the boot sequence.

You may want to run chkdsk on the hard drive to fix any errors. Use the fix switch on syntax.

Message says that there is insuffient memory when trying to install or run Windoes 98Se on machine with 2MB Ram

FYI,
Minimum hardware requirements for Windows 98:
1. 486DX 66 megahertz (MHz) or faster processor (Pentium central processing unit recommended).
2. 16 megabytes (MB) of memory (24 MB recommended).
3. Hard disk space may range from between 120 MB and 295 MB, depending on your computer configuration and the options that you choose to install.
4. A full install of Windows 98 on a FAT16 drive requires 225 MB of free hard disk space, but may range from between 165 MB and 355 MB, depending on your computer configuration and that options that you choose to install.
5. A full install of Windows 98 on a FAT32 drive requires 175 MB of free hard disk space, but may range from between 140 MB and 255 MB, depending on your computer configuration and the options that you choose to install.
6. One 3.5-inch high-density floppy disk drive.
7. VGA or higher resolution (16-bit or 24-bit color SVGA recommended).

If your PC does not meet the above minimium requirements, you are bound to get errors popup installing or running software.

Hope it helps.

I had Windows 98 OS on my desktop and I wiped it out and installed Windows XP. My system performed better before I did this, how do I get rid of XP and reinstall Windows 98? I don't have the Windows 98 CD...

If you don't have the Windows 98 CDROM, or an image backup of your Windows 98 installation (if you don't know what an image is then you don't have one) then you're in a tough spot.

You can't just "go back" to your Windows98 machine, you will have to reinstall Windows 98 from a CDROM. So you will have to find a disc from someone/somewhere and hope it's the same version of 98 that your product key was for (if you have the product key). Or you can purchase a new copy of Windows 98SE. They cost around $55 from several websites (viosoftware.com for one).

On another note, if you computer is running slower with XP it's most likely due to the amount of RAM being low. Try to get at least 1GB of RAM in your current PC and you'll probably see XP run better. You could also try installing Ubuntu, it's a free operating system.

I am trying to set up a usb network connection in Windows 98, I don't have the disk to finish it. Can I get the dll files online?

Windows 98 does not support USB interfaces.
Windows 98 SE supports USB interfaces.
Which do you have? 98 or 98SE?

Windows 98 will not boot up

You could try running sfc scannow. See link here. And very helpful site for troubleshooting windows 98 here and here.
I couldn't tell you about downloading it, but I'd scan any download very carefully, and question whether you could trust an install done from such files to be secure. I'd try to find an original cd as they should be a dime a dozen these days...
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

I need windows 98 instalation dump or vedio

Ha! That's the first OS I ever reloaded.....ah, memories.

I most certainly can help you with this.

Here's what you need to get:

Windows 98 boot floppy from here - http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
(you need to know which version you are installing, Windows 98 or Windows 98SE)

Windows 98 or 98SE OEM CD

You will need to boot from your floppy disk first and format the hard drive which will prepare it for windows, then use it to boot your computer to the cd and the process will begin.

Here are some more detailed steps, the above is only in a nutshell:

That comes straight from Microsoft. Let me know if that helps you!

Problem with my video card and sound card

No, that card is not compatible with Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). It is only compatible with Windows 2000/XP/XPx64/MCE.

Compatibility meaning there are no drivers available for Windows 98/98SE.
