Why is my kenmore freezer cold, but refrigerator not even when set at highest temp?

Hello Donna;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You have not provided your unit model number, which is located in your fresh food section on a label, on the side wall near the top.

You only have one cooling source, and that is your freezer. Your freezer feeds your fresh food section. This is through a direct air vent.

Reach into your fresh food section where the air vent from the freezer goes into the fresh food section. Do you feel cool air? Probably not.

So, either the air vent is frozen up with ice which you can clear with a hair dryer, or you have a automatic air vent motor/ sensor assembly that is bad.

Give me more information and I will help you.

Our fridge seems to work like a freezer no matter what setting is on, is this a known problem? The model is a Gorenje fridge/freezer model: HZOS 3366

Hello Nick;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

I assume you are from the United Kingdom based on your unit. I am from Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Yes, this is a common problem and a simple one to fix. Your only cooling source is from your freezer. There is a vent from your freezer that blows cool air into your fresh food section. This vent is probably motorized and controlled by a temperature sensor in your fresh food section. Either the vent assembly is bad and stuck open or you have a bad fresh food section temperature sensor..

Temp fix: With tape or cotton balls or something locate the air vent to your fresh food section and block at least 1/2 of the air flow vent ports to your fresh food section.

Fridgidaire refrigerator flashing error code 4

From what I remember a flashing 4 means "damper error". Send your model number found inside or on the outside of the fresh food section, The air damper is found between the freezer and fresh food section and regulates temperature in the fresh food section by opening wide for things that warm up your fresh food section example would be opening the door and letting warm air inside . The damper then closes to keep the right temperature. If you have questions please ask, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge not cold but freezer fine

Can you see frost buildup on the freezer walls? Can you find the model number around the fresh food section door? If you unplug the refrigerator and then remove the freezer panel that has a fan behind panel do you see this? Defective Defrost Heater

With the freezer panel removed can you tell me exactly what type of frost pattern you have? Can you email me a photo of the frost pattern you do have?
Evaporator Frost Pattern Only Two Rows

Another possible problem is your model may have a Auto Damper
that could be stuck because of frost blocking the damper from opening and closing that regulate fresh food section temperatures. If you need help I will be here to answer so please respond and search for your model number so I can possibly look your model and see what type of other features that can cause the freezer to be fine and fresh food section to be warming up, Thanks Sea Breeze

Our Jenn Air top freezer is only 52 degrees in fridge and -10 in freezer. Temp control both on max. What could cause this?

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. It can be a fan issue, The fan in the freezer may not be working. Can you hear the fan motor running in the freezer? It may also be the damper in the fresh food section not open correct. Also if a door was left open the vent up to the fridge could be frosted up. Feel for air flow in the fresh food section by the vent.
Thank You and please rate my answer if it was helpful..

Freezer is working. Fresh food section is not working. The fan in the freezer is working. No cold air is arriving in the fresh food section at all.

Sounds like a defrost problem that typically shows up as the fresh food section begins to get warmer. Look at rear wall of freezer and see if a layer of ice or frost is building on the rear wall. If yes you will need to unplug and manually defrost. Your model also has a Adaptive Defrost Control=> 2304099

sea_breeze_192.jpg

The ADC is located Here=> ET8FTEXSQ00 Liner Components
In that photo you will see position number 4, that is the ADC. It can be found behind the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Sometimes when bad that board will have burn marks or signs of heat damage but not always. If you do have a defrost problem it will be good to catch the problem now and once defrosted you will have about 4 days to get the parts. I will be here to assist you if you have any questions please let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Top freezer is functioning, but the refrigerator isn't.

Check to see if you can feel the inside fan. The fresh food section is cooled by the freezer only. If the fan is not running the fresh food section will be warm. Also make sure the damper is open between the freezer and the fresh food section. It is controlled by one of the two knobs inside the fresh food section. The knob that turns the unit off and on is the thermostat, the other is the damper control. They are sometimes confusing the way they are named by factory.
One of these two things should be your problem

Freezer does not get as cold as the setting made but refrigerator

If the unit is working correctly, it could be that you are trying to adjust the freezer with the wrong knob. The fresh food section is cooled by forced air from the freezer and can get about as cold as the freezer if not adjusted correctly. The thermostat its self controls only the temp in the freezer. Some times telling which is which is confusing. Here is the best way to tell the difference.
The knob that will turn the unit off is the thermostat. The other one controls how much air can be forced into the fresh food section. The thermostat should be adjusted to where the freezer stays around -10 degrees. The other knob should be set so the the fresh food section stays between 35 and 38 degrees. If this does not help or if you find that there is indeed a problem with you unit, please get back with me and I'll be glade to walk you through diagnosing the problem.
Please post a rating if solution is helpful. Thanks

Zanussi zx99/5 freezer working fine but my fridge is too warm

This may be an airflow problem. These are things to check. Make sure the temp control in the fresh food section for both the freezer and the fresh food is set half way between coldest and warmest temp setting. Over adjusting these settings can cause poor air circulation and make the fresh food section too warm. When openning the freezer, the evaporator fan should be on or start shortly. If the evaporator fan stops working, there will be no circulation to cool the fresh food section and will need to be checked to see if it is bad. If bad it will need to be replaced. The evaporator in the freezer section may be iced over causing poor air flow to the fresh food section. You may need a service tech to check this part. If the evaporator is iced over, stopping air circulation, the button thermostat or defrost element may on the evaporator may be bad and could possibly reqiure a technician to replace it Check the first two things and let me know what you find and how it is doing after reseting the temp control. I will be happy to help you in any way I can..
