Question about Samsung HCL4715W 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Who might know the resistor vaues I would need for the convergence board???

I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GO TO THE SITE THAT IS LISTED IN THIS forum and it will cost me about 90 dollars to get just the chips and the service manual. I was hoping somone would have a list or a kit number for the resistors needed for replacement of the ones on the convergence sub board. It would save ordering time for me as the local radio shaft would not have those low resistance 1 watt resistiors in stock. Any good ideas??? I found on ebay chips at a very resonable price with a six month warrranty on them. I was going to find out if the warranty was any better at the quoted site. puss I think I may be able to get samples for free. though I need 040's I may be able to get others but I was wondering were the pinouts divferernt than the 040's I was thinking I would look them up on icmaster.

It has been a long time sinceI have tried to work on tv's. As I have never invested in an isolation transformer but I really got the hang of working on them enough to fix them like I can Computers. When I was in school we did not cover fixing tv's but when it came to board level work it usually was just on bread boards. it was the hot chassies that seemed to be a real pain for me to work on in tracing out the system. It has been many years since I dreamed working on them. for a time I used to work on VCR's but they are through aways now. but the bane of my repair issuses was to have the dog goned service manual. I even got a fich machine to read the ones I could git on fich and they were the cheapest form of manuals.

Well I was able to do some more digging on and I found this schematic for the circuits to these chips. Though I have not been able to confirm these values they are probally close. Any further thoughts????

  • rescue25 Jun 03, 2008

I am sorry if I misstated I have yet to make the repair yet. I have been digging around at other sites looking for a free service manual. I found the circuit above at and then I plan to check these values with the board in my set. That is the best I can do at the moment. I was trying to prevent a delay in parts so I could make the fix in one shot with out having to wait for other parts.

The 010. 020 and 040 ICs are interchangeable with the 392-040 ICs being better. The site I posted has origional sanyo ICs you can get them cheaper but when it comes to convergence ICs you end up getting what you pay for if there under 20.00 each they arent sanyos. I dont know of any kits for samsung Hitachi selld kits but they wont have the one your model needs, The convergence resistors are special metal films so most places wont stock them

If you replaced the convergence Board with a new one it shouldnt be an issue with the resisitors associated with the Convergence Board. however when the convergence board is used as a seperate Board with The convergence amps. samsung will usually have another board that is attached to the green Crt convergence yoke. If the Convergence board is new that you repklaced I woul check the board on the gree CRts convergence yoke or the Digital convergence board that is on the signal board that plugs into the convergence Board (large Plug)

if your model is the HCL4715W the resistors associated with the ICs are 270 Ohm 1/2watt RZ104 -RZ106

    27K Ohm 1/16 watt RZ133-RZ135

    3.3K Ohm 1/8 watt RZ136 & RZ138

    3.9 Ohm 2 watt RZ146 and RZ147

    150 Ohm 2 watt RZ148 and RZ149

The other IC has the same rated resiistors

Check the site - they will not have your model listed but they can build a customer convergence kit for many models. You just need to send them a few photos of your boards.

Convergence problem???

yeppers..those chips are soldered(more like welded) into the board, and usually runs you around 300 to 400 buckos..

JVC AV56wp74 convergence. Resistor before ICs?

It's recommended to replace all the defective parts first because if you only replace the defective resistor, it might burnt again if the convergence IC is shorted internally. I would also suggest to measure the other low value resistors with multimeter.

Replaced convergence board but still out of convergence. what's next?

1- Did you try converging it by way of your menu?
2- Sometimes they have fuse-able resistors on the deflection board that go open when the IC's take a dive.
3- If this doesn't help then I will need your model number and make and you will need to get your DVM ready for trouble shooting.
4- I haven't had to replace a convergence board complete in 20 years, I don't know why your wanted to do that. Replace the IC's and possible resistors and your back in business.
5- Let me know!

Your TV most likely has a Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site . They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

I have a convergence problem. My Sony KP-65WS510 has a picture that looks like 3-D and bows at the bottom and top of the screen. I already replaced both the IC's STK 392-560 (2 qty.) and check all six 3.5a...

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

Problem with Samsung TV

SAMSUNG Convergence Problem

It looks like blue convergence. Look at menu, select convergence and see if blue top is bent down on convergence adjust screen. Probably won’t adjust.

Some Samsungs have convergence IC’s on a separate convergence board in the back of the TV. Others have the IC’s mounted on the main deflection board. Either way the board has to be removed to get at the dud IC’s and associated burnt resistors.

You remove the appropriate board, determine if any resistors are burnt or damaged, replace any burnt or out of tolerance resistors, replace 1 or 2 IC's and re-install the board.

Now you have to adjust it to look like new.

If the unit has not been misadjusted and everything is OK now, running the auto focus may put the picture back to it’s previous stunning quality, as it was before IC failed.

If after self or autofocus it is still misadjusted noticeably, try the customer convergence adjustments. Operators’ manuals are available on web through searching.

If convergence can not be adjusted properly, you messed up chip install or resistors may be wrong value or open; or it needs major adjustment.

If you live around Calgary, Alberta try me instead:

Or try to the find the repairperson part of this website (on the Homepage) and search postal code. Maybe you will be lucky and someone from your area is listed for Projection TV repair.

Most rookies doing this job will cause damage and not be successful. They will pay double for someone to fix their mess or end up scrapping the TV. It is not a simple task. It is more difficult than batteries on a remote.

Good Luck
