1 Answer

I suddenly lost the color on the screen and no manual adjustments seem to work to restore it.

It couldn't possibly be the tuner. I'm not using the tuner, only feeding a DVD (and I've tried more than one player). I'll try the reset solution. What about the projection system?

I'm assuming that you have tried all the color temperatures, the full color setting, the full tint range and the correct input/colorstream to no avail. The only thing left that you can do then is to try to reset it - Menu, Picture, Reset button on the remote.
If even this has failed then the defect is in the tuner - you will have to call a repairman to replace it.

Your tv uses an LCD panels block - 3 LCD panel for the 3 colors and an optical engine. They can't cause what you describe - if they would have been faulty the image itself would have been messed up.
If the reset doesn't work then the image processor (the one that converts the Component/Composite source in the raw data used by the LCD's) is defective and for that you will gonna have to replace the entire image board. It will be very expensive, over $600.

"Consider a journey through time and space................"

A) Let's discuss why you performed a System Restore in the first place.

1) Screen resolution seemed to be messed up?

2) Thought you picked up a virus?

3) Will Biff from Back to the Future, ever find true love?

NO...............just wanted to see if you were following along, lol!

Suggest you go to Display Properties, and see what the Screen Resolution is.

Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen> Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list > Left-click on the Settings tab.

Screen resolution should be 1280 X 768
Use the slider to adjust it.

Color quality should be -> Highest (32 bit)

If you adjust either one (Or both), go to the bottom right, and click on Apply, then to the bottom left; and click on OK.

Please post back in a Comment.

I have had this TV 6 months. Got it from a friend. The set worked perfectly in my house for 3 months. The color seems to have suddenly changed giving a gold tint to all cable channels, dvd's etc. I have...

I don't want to seem condescending in anyway but i would try checking all your cables to see if they are plugged in properly and if that doesn't help id suggest buying new cables and testing those to see if your old ones have died out. If it isn't the cables then return them but at the least we've figured out what it isn't. Other then that i cant really see of any problem other then an internal one.

Akai PT5499hd that has suddenly lost color alignment

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.png http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

LG DLP Flat screen suddenly lost its red color

The Lamp would not cause this problem. If you are using Componet Input only, I would look to see if the Red Signal Cable has pulled off the Input Jack or is bad. If you have no Red in any input and also do not have Red on the User Menue, It would probably be the Opical Engine.
I hope this helps,
