Rob, this change is router brand and model relevant. In essence you need to log into the router and change the wireless settings. Go to the website for the brand and download instructions relevant to yoru specific unit. You want to invoke WEP wireless security, and assign yoru own password, often yoru 10 digit home or cell phone number, change system ID to something that you recognize, change AND RECORD the changes that you make. Also, change the broadcast channel to 11 or so, and have less issues with land line wireless phones.

There is much higher security that you could invoke, but typically just passwording the wireless access does it.

If your router came with a CD-ROM, then insert that CD-ROM, and it will run software to help you "configure" the router, i.e., to allow you to choose an SSID ("network name goes here"), an encryption-level (select 'WPA') and to set a password.

I try to connect to my internet and when i connect and put my network password in it tells me a errro code 51330

Likely cause: It appears that the password (also known as a WPA or WEP key) entered into the Wii console is not the same as what your wireless router is set to allow.
How to fix: Make sure the password is entered into the Wii exactly as it appears in your router's settings. Security keys are case sensitive.
Don't know how to find your router's password?
Look for a sticker on the bottom of your router. Many routers provided by Internet service providers have their default password located on a sticker on the bottom of the router.

If you're not able to locate the password here, select the brand of your router below and we'll show you how to access your router's settings.

Linksys Netgear DLink
Belkin Apple 2Wire All other brands
Once you have entered the correct WEP or WPA key into your system, try the connection test again. If the problem persists, keep reading this page.
Other suggestions:
  • Did this connection used to work but has suddenly stopped? "Power cycle" your router and modem. To do this:
    • Unplug both the modem and the router from the power outlet.
    • Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in.
    • Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then plug in the router.
    • Try to connect the Wii, Nintendo DS, or Nintendo 3DS online and test for proper response

  • Change your router's channel setting to 1 or 11. By default, most routers broadcast on channel 6, which overlaps with other channels and may be weaker. For help doing this, click here and select your router brand and model (if available). The information you need is found in the "Broadcast Channel:" area.

Hi fixya community, So I have a wireless g netgear router model wg614v9 EVERYTHING is still on factory setting and I've tried everything I know possible...port forwarding...and a few other things I...

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.if there is a small hole in the front or back of the router push a hair pin in to reset to factory settings
make sure your routers setting are correct ie:password user name, firewall settings to allow your internet to connect also test the lead/s whether usb or ethernet you might check your modem first to make sure that you are getting a connection
last resort ring your ISP internet sevice provider get them to check your modem for internet access online
hope this helps

If I reset my d-link router will my household

If you set up your again with exactly as it was before the reset you (same WEP key, wireless network name) then your computers should just reconnect. If you're having to reset the WEP key, the worst that will happen is that you'll get a prompt to put in the new password the next time your computers try to connect to the wireless.

NB - performing a reset on your router will mean you have to set the thing up from from scratch so make sure you have your internet username and password to hand (if it's ADSL) and that you know what your old wireless network settings are before proceeding.

Have forgotten the network security key and want to change it so we can add another laptop. Please help

First of all, try the router serial number as the key (I do this so you can't forget it).
If that doesn't work you could log into the router and see if you can see it there.
If that doesn't work then do a factory reset then set up the network key using the serial number.

Access my lan from the WAN

I assume you want to log into your pc from another pc outside your lan. To do this you need to forward port 3389 to your pc.
  1. Make sure your pc (the one you want to connect to) has a static ip address. Also, it should have a password on the windows account you use.
  2. In the router, forward port 3389 (tcp) to the ip address of the pc.
  3. If you do this correctly, you can go to any pc outside your lan, and use remote desktop connection to connect. When you start the remote desktop connection, put in the wan ip address of your lan. If you did the port forwarding correctly, you will be asked for a user name and password. Put in the username and password for your user account on the lan pc and voila! - you are logged into your lan pc remotely.
Let me know if this works, or if you need some more help.

How do i password protect my router from outsiders connecting

Hi, check out the support pages here:-

Select your model (v3,v4,v5 etc) then look at the setup pages. Set your security to WPA rather then WEP as this is easily crackable, and with WPA you can choose the password. You should also change the routers admin password to be extra safe.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
