I have a dell computer running windows vista home premium. Intel 2 duo core processor, 2 gb of ram, and 32 bit system. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N dvd rom drive that is not properly reading my DVD's. It reads regular discs, but when I put in a DVD rom cd it will not work. Any suggestions?

If your computer is still under WARRANTY, exercise that warranty to get it fixed.

Otherwise, spend $40 to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer, to replace the "defective" unit.

if that is all you are getting a the system start, there is a good chance the hard disk drive may have failed. Try reseating the drive then F2 to BIOS, reset defaults and see if the system will boot. If HDD isn't detected in the bios, it has likely failed.

Try increasing your RAM to 2GB ... 1GB is barely enough to run the OS, let alone an app or two.
