Question about Linksys Wireless-G WUSB54G 802.11g/b

2 Answers

I had put my desktop in storage for a year. Before storage it worked fine, with the wireless adapter. When I start up the computer, everything works fine. When I plug in the wireless adapter via a usb port, it shuts down my computer and re-starts asking me to work in safe mode or go back to a last configured startup (forgive my lack of detail with this statement, I am not at the computer). Do you think I adapter is bad?

Try different usb ports.

trying something else with a usb connection, if it restarts will all of the above then its a dodgy usb connection which has weaken during the hibernation period. and will need looking by a techy.

if the above dont do anything then it could be the adapter

Sounds like a driver problem. Go to the Linksys website > Support and Drivers > plug in WUSB54G as the model number and download the driver for your operating system. Double-click to install and follow directions. You will have to uninstall your existing wireless adapter from Device Manager first.
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager or Hardware - Device Manager > Wireless Adapaters. Select uninstall driver.

Hello,

I'm afraid your only option is to get the drivers one way or the other before you can connect to the internet or the network.

What I recommend is simply downloading the drivers from another computer that has access to the internet and transfering the driver package with a USB key or an other portable storage device.

Thanks,

Pat

Flashing Green light???

Try plugging it into your other computers. If it works that means it may be driver issues on your desktop. Now if it doesn't work on the other computer your device is bad. On wireless adapters packets get collided. After two years of packet collusion your adapter will go bad. Now these days adapter like that is cheap to get these days.

I get a strong signal but win XP says no to poor connectivity. its worked fine for 3 years - linksys WAP54G

If this worked fine for three years, something physical in your environment has changed. First put whatever was moved back where it was. Then check the antenna connection(s) both on your router and inside your computer for corrosion and fit. Also make sure your wireless adapter card is securely mounted inside the computer. Then you should check your wireless adapter settings to make sure someone has not "helped" you.
Right click on my network places, select (Click) properties, and when the next window opens right click on the wireless adapter icon and select (click) properties. Check the adapter settings by clicking on the configure option next to the connect using xxxxx to make sure you are set for the proper 802.11 g mode of operation etc. When you click OK your wireless adapter will be re-configured for any changes made. You should make changes with care., especially since everything used to work. You should repeat the My Network Places etc. and then choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and check these settings as well. The only setting in this area that may cause a connectivity problem is IF a QoS Packet Scheduler service is listed in the window. However, QoS is usually a GOOD thing to have installed. Once again, any changes you make will be changed in Windows when you click OK. I would re-boot the computer to let Windows accept any changes you make.

Wireless adapter not found! Please insert the adapter now.

It wireless adapter could be faulty or the PCI slot in the computer is faulty.
Insert the D-Link into another PCI slot and also try installing the drivers again, the driver may be corrupted.
Try installing the D-Link in another computer, if it doesn't work then it is faulty and you need a replacement wireless adapter.

No Active Internet Connection

If you want to use the wireless portion of your router, you would need a wireless adapter installed on your desktop. If you are getting internet on your desktop then this means that your wired connection is fine to the router is fine. The WMP54G adapter will work with your router, however if you are not planning on connecting to the internet wirelessly through the router then there is no need to purchase the adapter. Hope that this helps you out.

Can't re-install 2Wire USB Wireless adapter

If you are on windows vista it could be your driver. You can go into safe mode on the computer with F8 while the computer is starting up, then go to the control panel and device manager. Plug the adapter in and remove the driver for it. Download a new driver at http://support.2wire.com/index.php?page=download and install it.
