Access the manufacturer's web-site: and scroll-through the list of their computers, and read the specifications.

Or, look on eBay for a "PCMCIA V.90 modem", assuming that you have an empty/unused PCMCIA slot in your computer.
Insert the modem-card into the PCMCIA slot -- now you have a modem.

Not sure how to connect to my cable internet modem

On the rear of the unit, there should be an RJ45 connector labeled "WAN". Using a short network cable, usually supplied with the cable modem, connect the modem to the router. Follow the instructions in the router manual for setup. If you do not have the manual and/or the utilities, go to the URL below and select from the list of available downloads.

Hardware conflict

You might have your internal modem set to the same com port as your com ports that are on your motherboard. You can try to go into BIOS and disable all com ports OR you can try to configure your internal modem in windows to use com 3 or com 4. Remember, that if your computer does have com ports in the back, then is is probably set to the same address as your internal modem so something needs to be moved.

First of all, you said "routers", do you mean yo have more than one?
Your router has one "external" or "internet" port, and one or more "internal" or "network" or "LAN" ports. If you have wireless it is "internal" too.
Your Internet modem should connect to the "external" port only.
The computers and other home devices go to the internal LAN ports. If you have a separate hub/switch they are connected to, the switch itself should connect to the "internal"
If it doesn't run by default you'll have to follow the Quickstart instructions given with your router.
Note: if you have wireless, you SHOULD setup your router as per instructions, because by default anyone close to your router can connect to it.
