Yes - get hold of an Adaptec USB2XCHANGE SCSI-USB cable and download Vuescan software (www.hamrick.com). This works perfectly on LS2000 - Macbook Pro combo.

Here's an update on fixing a Nikon LS-2000 scanner that wouldn't work. I am using VueScan software (www.hamrick.com) a Macbook Pro, and a Ratoc FR1SX SCSI to Firewire adapter (available from amazon.com).
After spending a lot of time on Google, I figured that the problem was most likely the rails needed lubricating. I took the scanner apart, and first of all cleaned the mirror - it was very dusty. There's a good website with photos and directions on how to clean the mirror, and the basic instructions for taking apart the scanner:
http://www.vad1.com/photo/dirty-scanner/ls2000-cleaning/
Then I went further and took apart the slide rails on which the scanner runs. It's actually not much more work to do this (after you've cleaned the mirror). Apparently this is a common problem, and probably the main reason people stop using their LS-2000 scanners. The LS-2000 needs to be serviced by lubricating these slide rails. If this isn't done, it won't run freely and after a while just gums up, the original oil dries out and actually seizes up the scanner. I followed some of the general instructions on the following website (it's actually for a different Nikon Coolscan III scanner, an LS-30, but the principles are the same).
http://www.vad1.com/photo/dirty-scanner/nikon-ls-2000-lubrication-guide.pdf
The key to this is cleaning off the slide rails with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol, and then lubricating with teflon lubicant (any bike shop should have this, get a small bottle of lubricant with P.T.F.E).
Once I'd done this, it worked beautifully right away. That's it.
There is also someone in Missouri who will service the LS-2000 for $109, he advertises on eBay:

Scanner doesn't recognise their is a slide loaded in the slide holder

The first thing I'd try is to run the scanner with the Nikon software. When you power on the scanner it goes through a variety of checks, and finally you should have a silent scanner with a solid green light at the front. Start the Nikon software and wait until it finds the scanner, if it doesn't you have a hardware problem with the scanner.

If it goes well to this point insert a card or plastic mounted slide and hit Preview. The scanner should then create and image you see on screen. Next step would be to make a scan. If the slide you're trying to scan isn't card or plastic mounted you'll need the Nikon made carrier.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Download the Nikon scan application here: Nikon Scan

There is also a firmware update for this model. After installing the Nicon Scan software that includes the scanner driver (ensure that scanner is recognized), do the firmware update.
Follow instructions on site and do not interrupt firmware update procedure, or that may damage the scanner.

I need to connect a Nikon LS2000 Slide Scanner to a Power Mac G4

I originally had the same problem but with a G5. Since Nikon never updated the software for the LS2000 to work with Apple I ended up buying a FR1SX adapter from RATOC Systems: http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/FR1SX.htmlwhich connects the SCSI pins to a Firewire cable. Then I purchased the VueScan software from http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. The scanner worked for several years with this combination.

Drivers for Nikon LS 1000

I believe that's a SCSI-interface scanner, making its setup more complicated than there's room for here. Here's what Nikon says about SCSI setups: <http://tinyurl.com/2wxp7p> and the Nikon software for the LS2000 and LS3000 (but maybe it'll work for the LS1000 too) is at <http://tinyurl.com/2qko5e>. There's a good set of detailed installation instructions under cineman's entry at <http://hardware.mcse.ms/archive47-2005-6-203500.html>. Good luck!

Either or is my understanding- the scanner will accept either. I can see no need for both.
