Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

2 Answers

While using my laptop, the machine started making a sudden clicking noise so I closed the notebook. Then when I opened it again the blue lights indicated that it was on but nothing showed up on the screen. I have turned it on and off multiple times using the power button, with and without the charger cable plugged it. This was yesterday, and the screen still won't turn on.

Well thanks for the help, I went to unscrew the hard drive but decided to take out and then return the battery instead and that ended up working! But I hope there aren't issues with my hard drive...

This could be a bad hard drive (probably, based on the clicking sounds). Hopefully, it is still under warranty and you can send it back to HP for repair. If not, you can have a new hard drive installed for less than buying a new PC.

Try booting the computer with the hard drive removed. You can remove the drive from the bottom of the laptop, you'll see a hard drive icon with two screws on a panel.

What happens when you boot with the drive out?

Power light blinking on nv53a gateway

Your Gateway laptop comes with a series of LED lights that alert you to the state of your computer. You'll notice there are blue, purple and red lights that either blink or display solidly. Each light, blinking or solid, has a different meaning. The blue blinking light on your laptop indicates that it is in Standby mode. Your laptop goes into Standby when you close its lid without shutting down the computer. To turn this light off, you'll need to take the computer out of Standby mode, and if you want to ensure that the blinking blue light does not return, shut down the computer after each use.

Open the lid of your Gateway laptop and press the power button. Once Windows loads, enter your password if required. The blue light will no longer be blinking because the computer is no longer in Standby mode. Shut the laptop off when you finish using it rather than simply closing the lid to stop the blue light from blinking again. Click "Start" from your Windows desktop and click "Shut down." Change your computer's power settings to keep if from going into Standby mode when you close the lid if you'd rather not shut down your computer every time you use it. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" and then click "Power Options." Click "Choose what closing the lid does" from the list of options on the left side of the window. Select "Hibernate" from the drop-down lists under "On Battery" and "Plugged In." Click "Save Changes." Your laptop will now bypass Standby mode when you close the lid and it will enter Hibernate mode instead. Hope it helps.

Backlight suddenly disapears.

Sounds like it could be a loose connection to the backlight. This can happen with the opening and closing of the machine over time. The only way to check is to open the case and possibly remove the screen in order to check the connections. It could also be that the backlight is starting to fail. This is not a serviceable part and would have to be replaced.

In first place you still have the dell warranty because you have use the notebook for only 6 month, but the explanation that states indicates that your machine has a virus, I suggest to take the machine to a rapair shop. Good luck

Can't type: hello folks... my Dell 630m won't let me type or click unless I am holding the shift key. When I turn it on the machine makes a beeping noise (sometimes one beep, sometimes 20 ) before Ubuntu...

Sounds like a bad keyboard.
There is not so much that could be done to repair a keyboard. Disassemble the laptop, check the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard. If the ribbon cable is loose, tighten it. If it is tight, replace the keyboard with a new one.
