Question about Cisco Linksys E1000 WirelessN Broadband Router Network Routers

2 Answers

Hi! Bernie here, I have an Linksys E1000 wireless-n router. How could I adjust the interference on my phone (Vtech 2.4ghz) is there an adjustment to make on the router itself or do I have to buy another phone higher like 5.ghz or 6 ghz. I've tried unplugging the phone apparatus etc....then plug in back in. Move to another location etc... So, what is the solution? Bernie PS Could I change the band on the E1000 router?

E1000 router is not a dual band router.
It works only on 2.4 GHZ wireless signal.
You can try changine the wireless channel on the router.
If you have installed the Cisco conect software on your computer, then open the Cisco connect software. Go to router settings. Click on advanced settings. It will open the setup page of the router. Go to wireless tab.
Set the configuration view to Manual.
change the channel to 11. See if that works.
If not then change the channel to 1 and check it.

Most newer phones use channel hopping (jumping from frequency-frequency) to eliminate noise (thats probably why most newer phones don't have a method of changing the channel )

Chances are it is not the phone causing the problem but a crowded channel by default linksys is on channel 6 (g/b 2.4Ghz) login to the router and try a couple other frequencies (if you have an N adapter in the PC you could possibly get better connection by tweaking the N radio features in the router)

Don't you require an RJ-11 for a phone line, cause I don't see one on this model? In any case, the ATM protocol should be handled by the ISP modem, and the router should just pick up the established network over Ethernet.

Connect the ISP modem to main uplink port. Then connect pc to any other port. Done. Some models come with a setup disc, but not absolutely required.

How do i change channels on my router

You change the channel in the router's wireless setting.
This does not give you a stronger signal BUT you can select a different channel so you do not get interference with other wireless routers in your area that are broadcasting on the same channel.

Make sure the latestwireless card driver is installed in the computer.Locate the wireless routerhigher and away from concrete and brick walls, foil-insulated walls. Locate the wireless routeraway from cordless phones and microwave ovens these can cause interference. You could be gettinginterference from other wireless access points or wireless routers in yourarea. Check the wireless broadcast channels in your area, and select one thatis unused or one that has the weakest signal strength.

Hi,
Most of the times you would be right when you say its a driver issue. :)
But there are certainly few steps that you can try as in -
a) Making an other third party program manage wireless on your XP SP2 machine
b) Tweaking the wireless channels to check if there is interference(this must have minimal impact as you already state that its working with everything else).
Try downloading a third part freeware to manage your wireless connections and uninstall the arheros client.
But before doing this try with windows client as well.
What is make and manufacturer of the XPSP2 machine??
