I have stripped gears in the mounting that moves the telescope vertical. Can I buy new gears or do I need to buy a new tri-pod?

Contact Meade to see if they have repair parts:

Wondering if this is the same problem I have. Bought used, turned on to calibrate. Moves vertical all on its own, until it's fully vertical, and the motor just spins. Then occationally it will stop, or get stuck and I'll have to give it a nudge.

Ahoo.comI've got a Star Tracker Telescope from Toys R Us. Although I have the instruction manula I cannot get the telescope to attach to the tri-pod, wondering if I am missing a peice....or is it one...

It probably just screws onto the tripod-- this is a very simple telescope. Read myu tips on my profile page-- take it back to Toys R Us if it will not attach-- and never buy that brand again. We receive the most complaints with that telescope.

I have a scope Galileo 1000mm focal can you buya camera 1in, and mount it in the eye piece. also a star tracker.? This thing is a real pos also need a gear box servo drive.

It's not worth buying all those accessories for that 80mm scope. They would cost several times MORE than what you paid for it.

Read this:

I have a Meade RB-70 telescope and have stripped the gears in the vertical adjuster - Meade no longer has the parts available

Only Meade would have the repair parts. Sorry. You will need to either use it as is, or purchase another telescope.

The telescope TUBE could be re-mounted on a photo tripod and used manually if you want to do this.

I bought a used Galileo FS-120DX reflector telescope on a garage sale. It is missing the eye-piece, instruction book, screw to attach the scope tube to the tri-pod and possibly some weights that attach to...

You may be able to call Galileo telescopes and order the parts.

http://www.galileosplace.com/

If not and if the eyepiece is a 1.25 inch (measure the hole in the focuser), then you can buy eyepieces and weights from several different retailers on-line:

http://www.optcorp.com/

The screw you can find at a well stocked hardware store.

Gears will not hold telescope

This is a common problem in the DS series. The altitude slewing mechanism has a design flaw that will cause the jack screw to back off of the axis gear, and get the screw caught on the internal body of the mount. It also tends to crush the jack screw against the motor spindle.

Meade does not sell replacement parts. You'll have to send the mount to them to have it repaired.

Stripped gears on the focuser

Meade will not have parts, focusers are always replaced as an entire unit-- but if the mirror is still good you can buy a replacement focuser here:
