Question about HP LaserJet 2420 Printer

2 Answers

My HP 2420 had a paper jam. I played around with it and must have cleared the path although I did not see any paper particles fall out. (I did have a jam and figured a small piece must have been left behind) However, now the problem is that it is printing blank pages. The old toner prints smudges: the new toner sends clean pages through. Either way, the pages are blank. The printer worked fine before the jam. I must have knocked somehting out of line or something is not snapped back in correctly or something silly like that. Any ideas?

Yes, I tried to print from the printers menu and it prints blank. That is why I think it is a mechanial problem.

Yes, I tried printing from the printers menu and it came out blank. That is another reason I think it is mechanical.

Try to print a engine test page the button is located on the the formatter near the front of the machine
Remove the cover that is located next to where you plug-in the the usb/ lpt cable and you will see a little black button toward the front of the machine. it should print a page with vertical line lines.
to get a better idea of where I''m talking about use this link it's a pdf file which shows you where the formatter is http://printersupport.rbizsolutions.com/...

    From the Manual:

To verify that the printer engine is functioning, print an engine-test page. To print an engine-
test page, press the engine-test-page switch on the formatter (see callout 5 in Figure 7-8.
Sensors and switches, HP LaserJet 2400 series).
The test page should have a series of vertical lines. The test page prints from the last tray
that you used to print unless the printer has been turned off, and then turned on again since
the most recent print job. If the printer has been turned off and then on again since the most
recent print job, then the page will print from tray 2. The printer will continuously print test
pages as long as the test-page switch is depressed. The printer will not print a test page if it
    is in Sleep mode.
A damaged formatter might interfere with the engine test. If the engine test page does not print, try removing the formatter and performing the engine test again. If the engine test is
then successful, the problem is in the formatter, the control panel, or the cable that connects
    them.
    Let me know your outcome.

Hummm, I have studied the diagrams but I can't seem to find the test switch. I thought it appeared in the diagram in the area of the battery....I had problems finding the switch on a hp2200 so I thought I had an idea what I was looking for but apparently not.....any hints on finding it? Isn't it just a flat black square switch sitting on top of the board? Thanks for your help.

tballone- Thank you so much for your help. I have fixed the problem. Inside to the left side of the toner there are 3 springs. One of the springs was "knocked" out of alignment. Once replaced back into its track the printer printed fine. Thank you for your time and help. ---Lori

    michelsmith:

Thank you for the advice. My printer is a basic laser printer with only a black toner. I figured I must have knocked something out of line while trying to see if a small piece of paper was blocking one of the paper sensor switches....it in the end it was something I caused by knocking a spring out of its track. Thanks again and I hope someone else searching for a solution finds this helpful.

Check the following steps for fixing Hp Carriage Jam Error :

Open the print carriage access door. Check for any packing material that may be blocking the internal components. Check for an orange shipping lock that may still be in place on the left side. Pull the shipping lock out, if present, and discard.

Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they are properly installed. Lift the front center of the print carriage access door to open it. Lift the door up until it locks into an open position. Press down on a print cartridge and allow it to spring back up. Lift the cartridge out of the printer. Do the same for the other cartridge. Slide the black cartridge into the slot on the left and the color cartridge into the slot on the right. Press down on each one to lock it into place. Lower the print carriage access door.

Check the print cartridges to make sure the protective tape has been removed from the ink nozzles. Remove the cartridges from the printer. Remove any tape or labels. Replace the cartridges into the printer.

Push in on the tab on the left side of the clean-out door on the back of the printer to open the door. Lift the door out of the printer. Check for any paper jams. Jammed paper can block the printer cartridge carriage from moving. Pull any jammed paper out.

Paper jam, clear jam and then press enter but there is no paper jam in printer

There are several sensors along the paper path. There could be a small piece of paper on one of them. You can use a can of air to blow it out. The quality of paper you use can leave small pieces of paper all around.

WE HAVE A PAPER JAM ON THE BACK FUSER OF HP LASERJET 2420. A PIECE OF PAPER IS COMPLETELY WRAPPED AROUND IT.

You can attempt to remove the fuser from the machine to have better access to the paper inside. It is very easy to damage the fuser roller and film when removing a piece of paper wrapped around inside.

We recommend calling for service, but worst case is you try yourself and can't get the paper out then you would just order a new fuser.

We can get you the fuser. Just call 262-993-1551. We offer free shipping.

Having message jam inside rear door and can not find any paper jam

Not all of the paper jam was actually cause by paper. There are also instances that the media is the one that is jammed, causing to display a "paper jam" message.

If you can't find any jammed paper from the unit, you can try inspect the following cause..
1. Trays are loaded improperly or overfilled.
2. Tray 2 or tray 3 is removed during print job.
3. The top cover is opened during print job.
4. The media that is being used does not meet HP specifications.
5. The media that is being used is outside of the supported size range.

Also, try to tun HP toolbox.. on the Paper Jam options, click the Typical Jam Locations... to see the internal paper path and potential jammed locations.

I hope this solve your problem...thanks..

I just changed printers cause my printer kept jamming it is a hp laserjet 2420 the same printer that I had before and my computer isn't recogonizing it nothing prints now.

next time play around with the paper jamming is caused by the loading of the paper just adjust it by hand, square it up etc, dont just put paper in the tray and leave it,these machines would have to be extremely sensitive to be able to load correctly every time,i dont know why the same model isnt working

The paper is constantly getting jammed in my hp psc 1510 printer

Ok...possible problems and solutions:

1. Most likely there is a small particle of paper still in the path which continues to pick at one of the new pieces of paper's edges and causing the new jam. Solution: check every crevice of the paper path for small bits of paper and remove.

2. the paper is too light for this printer. Cheaper paper is lighter in weight and typically will "ball up" easier with the action of the print head accross the sheets. This is why you souldn't use "copier paper" in your HP inkjet printers but it might be alright for the laser ones.

3. a previous jam has damaged (bent) one of the precision guides or parts in the paper path. Solution: buy a new printer.

4. the paper is too thick for this printer...(doubt this is the case but thought I would mention it) Solution: use lighter weight paper.

Always paper jam.

Check to see if something isn't blocking the paper path.

You could try cleaning the feed rollers as well.
