From what I'm hearing you don't have a good driver. If you still have the disk use that. If not google it or something. I have a Sansa e260 as well so I would suggest loading the songs on in windows media player rather that windows explorer. If you open Media Player and then go to sync and it does not recognize your device, then you have a bad driver. If not, then start syncing your songs that way.
To delete files directly from the Sansa player, follow these steps:
1. In playback mode, press the Submenu button.
2. Select Delete.
To delete music files using the computer, follow these steps:
1. Connect your Sansa to the computer.
2. Select Open device to view files using Windows Explorer on initial
connection.
3. Locate the folder where your files are stored.
NOTE: Music files are stored in the MUSIC folder. Voice recording files
are stored in RECORDING folders. Photos and Videos are stored at PHOTO
and VIDEOS folders, respectively.
4. Highlight and delete the desired files.
Will Windows read it as a flash drive? If so, find a file recovery program like undelete or something, use it to restore your files, then turn on the sansa, then select format( if it is a view) and it will delete all your songs
Have u checked if the songs u put in have extensions that are supported by the player............in ur case check if some of the songs are .rm or something and not .mp3...........only files with .mp3 extensions will be supported
Each time I start my Sansa e280, it goes into REFRESH DATABASE mode which takes up to 8 min to complete. Once the R.B. is comleted, the player works OK. How can I disable this operation?
Prob need to format the player 1. put player in msc mode (settings menu under USB)
2. go to my computer and rightclick on sansa
3. format box: choose quick format
4. format complete, allow player to stay connected to computer for 10 mins
go to sandisk.com and under downloads, download the updater to keep this from happening again, put the updater on your computer so each time you plug it in, it will look for updates
make sure you do not put questionable files on the player such as itunes or mp4, as they will "bad track"
I'm wondering if its your computer. I would test another usb-connected device (i.e digital camera, USB memory stick etc.) to see if it takes that long to recognize.
Also i would check what version of usb you have (ver 1.1 versus 2.0) The speed difference in both initial recognition and file transfer is significant.
