Oil is leaking from under washing machine. Looks like motor oil but has no odor. Is this fixable and if so, approx. how much would it cost ?

The only device holding oil under your washer is the transmission. If your washer still has agitate and spin cycles the transmission has not failed but being that there is a leak it will fail soon. Depending on the washer a transmission can be from about 180.00 to 230.00 if you buy the part yourself and do your own labor. If you feel like wrestling with it the front cabinet is held on with two clips under the control panel.

Oil on the floor under the washer

The gear case you are referring to is actually the transmission, and yes this is not a good sign. The seal has gone out. its usually cheaper to get another washer than repairing the old one. However if you would rather repair this one then i would try to shop around and find the best bargain.

Found oil and grease under washing machine. Makes loud noise when on spin cycle.

The oil and grease is probably from the transmission and yes you might be able to replace it. Get your make andmodel number and go to www.repairclinic.com. It is a very good site for finding pictures and parts of appliances. The parts are as cheap as you will find them. If the oil/grease is from the transmission, it will eventually fail. Fix it now or fix it later. Your choice.

Oil spill under washing machine

Sorry, this could be bad. The transmission might have blown a seal. It's a big job to fix, if this is the problem. It might be time to consider replacing the machine.

Washing machine will not spin during spin cycle (it will if you give the drum a turn by hand)

Tilt the machine back enough to inspect the under side. Inspect the bottom of the gearcase for oil. If oil is present, the oil has migrated to the clutch causing it to slip during spin. The gearcase and clutch will have to be replaced.

12 to 14 years on an Amana, (speed queen) built is about life on that machine, You need a transmission replacement. major work. You could have the machine rebuilt, which while it is being done, you would need a new belt, pump, brake pads, tub seal plus anything else that is rusted. You would be better off $$$ to replace the machine.

Let me know if you have any more questions. T

Oil/Grease under washer machine

Nash, your unit appears to be made by Whirlpool. (Kenmore doesn't manufacture anything, they purchase from major manufacturers and put the "kenmore" name on them) If, as I suspect, it is made by Whirlpool... the top transmission seal is failed allowing small amounts of water to enter the tranny. The water, being heavier than oil, will displace the oil through the top of the tranny... out through a "weep" hole. The weep hole is not designed to allow fluid to escape, it's designed to allow air to enter and exit the transmission housing, compensating for the heat expansion and contraction of the lubricant that should be contained within. Regardless of the manufacturer, you have a main drive system failure on your hands. It'll only get worse from here. Most manufacturers put a 5 year warranty on their drive-trains, you should call them immediately. If it's over 5 years old, it's a very expensive repair.
