SOURCE: Tray Wont open

Hello All. Well, I just finished troubleshooting the same problem of one of my customers units. At first I thought it was the tray contacts but they were good. What I noticed with the cover off and the shield for the laser removed...BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK IT TAKING IT OFF ANF DON"T LOOK AT THE LASER...that if I moved the DVD motor, the motor that turns the has a rubber wheel on the shaft...that the tray would open. The trouble was intermittent but I also noticed that the wheel would move when pressing the OPen button. I therefore concluded that the motor somehow was in the circuit to open the tray. So, I took the motor out CAREFULLY and on the end opposite the wheel there are two small holes. These holes appear to be access holes for assembly and to hold the brush contacts away from whatever they use for a commutator. At first i was going to disassemble the motor but changed my mind. I have contact cleaner spray and some old Color Tuner Cleaner spray from the old days of mechanical TV tuners. I gave each hole a small shot of spray and turned the wheel. Careful not to contaminate the rubber on the wheel as it is what grips the DVD and pushes it against the white nylon bearing. Voila, the tray opens and closes and the Load display is no more. As I said, be careful. If you are unsure...let someone who understands this stuff do it. Ed

SOURCE: DVD tray will not open

I had the same problem - unplug first- it is easy to undo all 6 small screws - open it up -plug in and then you can give it a little help to open it. It worked for me, BUT now it will open and close but not play the dvd.

I have a GPX D200B DVD Player and cant get the Disk Tray to open.

unplugged the dvd player and then re plugged, power on then press the eject button. if still the loading tray won't open, at this time you will need to remove the cover of the player to access the loading tray mechanical assembly. then check for an stuck up or broken rail plastic loading assembly it was installed drive by the loading motor.if ok, check the limit switch might not get contact which the processor not turn on the supply for the motor.

I tried to fix a scratched disc using toothpaste but it didn't work. Now when I put another disc in , it won't play and nothing is reading it is saying open tray

The open tray problem is either a drive motor or drive magnet or a laser issue, If you turn your console off and lay it flat, turn it on,and give it a rap with your knuckles where the center of the disk should be, if the game loads its either the motor is too weak to engage the magnet or the magnet has become detached, either of these need the console opening to fix properly.
If the console won't load its a laser issue, try cleaning with a dvd cleaning disk.
Remember thumbs up if this works.

I have an RCA DVD/VHS combo with TVG. The DVD

This is a work-around rather than a solution. We put an audio CD in the tray and after closing the tray the unit begins to play the music. After waiting a few seconds we open the tray and quickly substitute a DVD and it loads OK. We had also tried cleaning the player to no avail. The CD approach is a pain but it does allow us to play DVDs. Jim

The disc tray will not open. The display shows "open" and it makes noise as if it is trying to open, but it doesn't.

There is a small loading belt that is slipping. The noise you hear is the loading motor. When in the loaded position, there is a "clamper" that magnetically attached to the hub assembly to clamp the disk in place. It takes quite a bit of force to open this up. If you feel comfortable working inside the unit, you can try to gently lift up on the clamper assembly while you are trying to open the tray. That may provide enough to release the tray to open. Replace the loading belt with a new one and your problem should be resolved.

I can't load /unload DVD disk

This could be due to one of several reasons. It may be that the tray is stuck inside the rail. OR it may that the tray drive motor be faulty. You can check by putting your finger on the tray front and pushing the open button: if there is a faint vibration then a click then this is a tray jam. If no vibration is felt then the drive motor is faulty. You state that pushing the button displays OPEN so it seems that the button is ok. Now if the tray is stuck what you can do is open the drive mechanism, check whether there is a rubber band which is involved in opening or closing. Replace that band with a new one from an electronics store. Also clean and grease the rail with alcohol. Please note that ONLY ATTEMPT it if you are familiar with opening drives and are out of warranty. If you are not easy then you'll have to go to a technician. AND if the motor is faulty this would also require soldering.

I have got exactly the same problem. Thought I had found some discs that worked as the first one formatted, since then all have come up with that crappy error protection message. Samsung really should sort this out.
