If it is a fan assisted oven and the fan is working o/k, then you need to replace the oven element.
This is located behind a removeable cover at the rear of the oven compartment.

Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

The main oven of my DY46 Hotpoint is not heating up

It will be the element that has gone, and it is easy to replace.
Remove the cover at rear of oven compartment, and you will see the fan element, just undo fixing screw, and replace element.

Hotpoint oven not heating up;broiler ok

the element is burned out, remove itand check it with a ohm meter. if it moves when you touch the leads to both sides its good if it don't its bad. ps i take them all the way out to check them. you must unplug the oven before repairs!
