This is usually due to a defecting power supply or motherboard.

My gateway 503gr will not power on when you press the power button has power to mother board every thing is plugged in there is a green light on the power supply and the mother board and the power switch...

This could have a bad power supply (in this case I would try a new one just in case).
All other things being normal, I would guess a bad motherboard.
The best thing to do is disconnect everything but the CPU and memory and try to start it.
If it starts, then start connecting stuff until it doesn't start--this will tell you what is bad.

My a730n computer will not turn on. The green light flashes in the back. Local frys tested power supply and said it was working. Fans dont come on...nothing?

it could be a mother board problem or Power supply issue. Even if the power supply works it wont supply required voltage to some components. Its better you get a new power supply and test it.Still its not working it could be a mother board issue. There will be a chance for power button issue also.

No power, power supply seems ok,green light on mother board on. when pluged in the fan runs for a couple seconds and turns off.power button has no effect.

sounds like a mother board issue,

start with pulling out all ram chips and re try,,

then try pulling all cards out like old modem and also cdroms.

if ever thing but power is unpluged its a bad mother board or CPU chip

WONT POST AND HAVE LIGHTS ON THE TOP RIGHT THAT

Remove all cards and all memory. Only use a video card, if needed or the on-board video.
Plug in the power, turn on note the screen messages, if any.
A message should show on the screen something like... no memory, no ... (maybe some thing else).

Test the cpu to see if it is good. You can borrow another, or get some one to test it for you. If the cpu is good, then the mother board is suspect.

At this point if you should be able to tell which is bad.

The kind of things you mentioned could be caused by: bad mother board, bad bios, bad cpu, and even possibly bad memory. (one of those).
A board which hangs like this can also have problems with a daughter card.

Blinking amber light with green 4 light

If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Try, unplugging the power cable from the pc, and reinsert it, if this does not help try a differnt power outlet, if this dont help, open the computer, take the power Molex conector out of the mother board and try turning it on, if this dont help, take out the Memory modules and reseat them, if this dont work you may want to ring up dell support.

Hope this helps!

Comes on but then goes right back off and power light blinks red and green

hi. this is a main mother board issues with a number of circuit component failures. the power section of this unit is safe but, the main assembly will need to be repaired. the quick shutdown is signaling merging circuitry, due to a heat related issue.

This can be fixed by replacing the entire mother board in this unit.

Orange light, no start

Well it could be the power supply, but, first try removing all the cards on the motherboard except the video card (remove and reseat that) assuming the video is no built in. Then turn it on. See what happens. Post back with results

Red lights on board

i never had green lights on my motherboard, they have always been red and it runs fine. the mother board was made with red led lights. if its not working right, it's probably the switches on the mother board, normally make the first switch on, and the other 3 off.

No power no light

Could be either one, or it could be the toggle switch.

Start with the easiest first to check. Unplug the power toggle switch from the mainboard and take a screwdriver or something and short out those two pins to see if it starts the pc. if it does, then your pc case switch is just bad.
If that's not the problem, check the power supply next.

Jumper the ATX 20 pin power cable's green wire to any black, just to make sure the power supply is working. The fans in the power supply will turn on along with anything else hooked up.

To jumper the power supply use a section of wire or a bread twisty (with the insulation removed from the ends) and just connect the green wire to any black wire on the 20 / 24 pin power connector. Make sure that the power switch on the back of the power supply is switched on.

If neither of those seem to be the problem, then most likely it is the motherboard or the processor.
