Maybe to use the recovery you need to press F12 or F10. Reguraly when you press F8 is use to: reboot, return to OS choises menu, safe mode, etc... but never to recovery option. Check the PC/Laptop owner manual. In some cases you need to press Ctrl+F12/F10 or Alt+F12/10.

It is important to make sure all data has been backed up to disk if possible and to realise this process deletes all data and reverts the machine back to it's default state. To continue with the recovery program you need to tick the box indicating you are aware of data loss
  8. The recovery process will then run through, the computer will restart a couple of times during this. You will also need to go through the Vista "Out of Box Experience", to configure Vista. This is fairly straightforward so just follow the onscreen instructions

I can not get my computer beyond startup screen,it won't start in safe mode or anything. and the company i bought it from did not supply recovery disk. Where do I go from here?

Hi,

Recovery is the only option as i can see so as u said that you dont have the recovery disk here is a way to run the recovery from the partition .Turn the computer off and then instead of the F8 key tap the f10 key till you get a screen that says system recovery ..once you get the recovery page click on the advance option and then select destructive recovery .Click on next to initiate the recovery ,once it complets 100% restart the computer as it will prompt you to and then do the basic setup for the computer after which it will take you to the dsktop .

If this does not work then here is the phone number for computer surgeons from where you can get the recovery cds(1800 496 6127)

All the best

Full destructive recovery on Acer Travelmate 243XC

You need to reinstall the XP operating system. You'll need a system disk that came with the computer (best solution).

I recommend visiting a forum for your computer. Try this one. I found lots of good advice for my IBM thinkpad on a forum.
