Hello,If unoccupied during the winter so what,Assuming the house water is off & drained.#1 get a generator for the house with auto demand start.#2 install a millivolt steam heat system (makes it's own electricty to operate)#3 the burgular alarm system can have tempature alert added so you get a phone call if the house gets too cold.Just an idea.

What is the reason for the gap between the boards on my floor?

The reason is because that in the summer days the humidity level is high and your hardwood soaks up the humidity and expands and in the winter time, once the heat is turned on the humidity level drops, the floor dries and the gap starts.

What should I do in order to make sure my dog house stays cool in the summer?

In order to keep your dog's house cool during hot summer days, consider to do the following:
  • Place the dog house in the shade so it doesn't get too hot from the sun.
  • Make sure that the house is ventilated so warm air can come out.
  • If it gets really hot inside the house, you should put a fan to cool the house down or buy a small air conditioning unit made for dog houses.
  • Place a cooling mat on the ground of the house. This will help the dog to cool down during the hot summer days.

What are my humdity settings for DH504E Unit?

Simply put the humidity extraction settings generally range from 35% to 65%. The lower the percentage, the more humidity is removed and the house feels more comfortable. The higher the percentage, the more humidity remains in the house. In the hot humid Summer months, you want the humidity in the house to be as low as possible (i.e. 35%-45%) in the cooler months a higher humidity
( 60%) make the house feel more comfortable and does away with carpet static shock.

Choosing a setting is your decision, based on what I have explained above and your own comfort level.

I hope my information has helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

How to set humidistat for different seasons.

Vick, depending on the season and the humidity level in your home, is what determines the setting. For example, in the winter you want to maintain at least a 40% humidity level in your home. It will feel more comfortable, the heat will feel warmer and it will help keep static electricity at bay. In the Summer, you'll want to remove as much humidity as possible, as this will make the air feel cooler. If you have ceiling fans in you home, run them Clockwise at the highest speed you can tolerate. The more wind chill you generate, the cooler the air will feel and you won't have to set your AC at a lower temperature. Thereby, saving money. In the winter, run the ceiling fans Counterclockwise on the lowest speed. This will take the heat off the ceiling, wash the walls and bring it back down.

Clockwise and Counterclockwise are determined by looking up at the fan blades. Also, reversible ceiling fans have a switch on the side (where the pull chain is located). Generally, switch-up is Counterclockwise and switch down is Clockwise.

Hope this helps you to keep your home comfortable year round.

Have a large new house with lots of vinyl clad wood double hung windows on a lake temp today this am is 0 F we have a HRV system house temp is 66 downstairs and 58 upstairs heating with a heat pump and...

Really not efficent to run a heat pump at those temperatures. Below freezing is not good for the compressor in the outside unit. The humidity in the house with the low temp. is causing the condensation on the windows to freeze. Kinda like an air conditoner does in the summer without the freezing humid air from the house goes over the cold a/c coil and the moisture condensates on the coil running down to drain pan. raising the temp. in the house and lowering the humidity should help. I would also recommend running the electric heat in low outside teperatures.

I have upvc windows & always have condensation inside the windows. Only time that I don't have this problem is in the summer months when the weather is fine. I have had the windows for the last 12...

This is caused by high humidity and difference in temperature from inside to outside. So in winter when you have the heater on, there is a reaction when the inside of the upvc is heated and the outside is cooled and causes condensation to build up. Very similar to when you are in a car and there is humid cold weather. The black spots are very possibly a fungus growing as a result of the high humidity. You need to introduce fresh air into the house possible with a small inlet fan.

I have the Renewaire Energy Recovery ventilator system, Model EV130, installed in my house but do not know how to set it to the proper setting. The runtime numbers go from 10 to 100 and I am not sure what...

The RenewAire system is sized per ASHRAE 62-1999, residential air exchange of .35 air changes per hour, or 8 air changes per day. You can find an operation sheet for the PTL @ www.renewaire.com, downloads, residential, controls, PTL. A chart shows a starting point of ventilation based on the square footage x 8 foot ceiling height with a run time percentage for each model. For 2250 square feet with 8 foot ceilings, the run time for an EV130 is 85%, cycling hourly.

Actual run time will vary by tightness of house, number of occupants, lifestyle (number and frequency of pollutant generating activities). Outside weather conditions should have little effect on run time percentage. I run my system @ 50% year round, when the windows are shut.

The ERV tempers humidity and temperature extremes of the ventilation air year round. It is not a substitute for heating or A/C; it does not dehumidify the house in summer (it does reject some of the incoming summer humidity content, when the net humidity is greater outside than inside). It will lower humidity of the house in winter, or whenever the net humidity outside is lower than inside.

It will ventilate the house in an energy efficient manner all year long. Based on this information, choose a setting and manage the amount of run time to achieve your best IAQ.
