Red flashing light, constantly. (by 5 users)

Red light keeps flashing when on the docking station. When I try to turn the camera on using the on/off button, the shutter does not open. I do get a moment of a green flashing light, by a second, but this from the flash. The battery indicates it is full, as it has been charging for hours, when I view photos whilst on the docking station, so I don't believe it is a faulty battery. And I have removed the battery several times and wiped off with a dry cloth and reinserted, ensuring it is done the correct way, but still no joy. Can you advise what the problem may be please.
