  • Yatisme Jun 03, 2008

I have done, what you told me to do, but the problem is even worse, I have manage to install windows XP in one of my partition, but as soon as i follow step to format the drive which is my computer then manage then storage i cant go beyond that point. it just stops with no error anything.

The another thing, i found was, i can see maxtor SATA drive in bios, but i cant boot from that drive, as it doesnt contain OS

After uninstalling windows XP OS, the hard drive is making some different noise sort of cringe (not sure of spelling).

Setting the second sata hard drive as main drive

In your BIOS there is a section on Boot Priority. Set it to where it always boots from your 1Tb hard drive and this will make it the master. Another thing I did before I installed mine was to take the side panel off (computer unplugged) and remove the little CMOS Battery. That causes it to loose volatile memory and gives you a fresh start.
It worked on mine, but don't do what I did, closely observe which way the battery is turned. You can put it in upside down!

I have a dell optiplex and the hard drive has been removed how do i get new hard driveto run tried to install windowsxp disk failed on restart would not find hard drive HELP

Did you replace the old hard drive with a new one?
Check the connections on the drive itself. When you plugged the new one in, there should have been two cables you plugged into it. 1 small one that goes to the motherboard (called the SATA cable), and one wider one which comes right out of the power supply. If either of these is not plugged into the hard drive, you would get a message that says "could not find drive".

Check your connections and try again. If they're ok, then write back with as much detail as you can provide.

Good luck!

External Hardisk Maxtor 4 One Touch not detected

Have you tried different USB cables with the drive? If the drive is self powered (no ext power supply) which I think that one is, then it needs a really good cable to draw the 5 volts from the USB port. If you have tried a known working cable, then it could be the USB controller or the disk itself. You can buy the USB box on eBay really cheap and move the drive over.

I have a maxtor 250GB black usb 2.0 hard drive that is no longer recognised by my PC. The usb port works OK with other USB appliances. Its not a high speed 2.0 port but thats not been a problem in the...

Try connecting this drive to another PC/laptop. If the hard disk does not get recognised, you may have to seek help from Maxtor / authorised service personnel to diagonse the issue with the hard drive. Given that there is circuitry in between the actual physical disk and its USB port connector, chances are that the data on the hard disk would be safe and the intermediate circuitry may have suffered a brown-out. Good luck!

I have a 40 pin ide cable connected to my existing hard drive,i have just purchased a diamond max 21 , 250gb hard drive, which cable do i need for this

You can use your existing 40pin EIDE cabele for this drive, however check your motherboard for a SATA connector, as this drive can run EIDE or SATA, naturally the SATA connection is much faster and I would recomend using the SATA connector if your motherboard is compatible.

Hope this helps

Maxtor III 500 GB external hard drive is no longer recognized by computer. No driver installed ???

Drivers are not necessary for hard drives - as long as your computer recognized it when you first installed it, you're all set. It sounds like your hard drive has failed, or become disconnected. Check the connections for IDE or SATA, and power. If they're both connected properly, listen when you power up the computer to hear if that particular hard drive spins up. If it doesn't, it might be dead.
If you have access to another computer, try installing the drive into it temporarily and see if it is recognized in that computer. If the drive has failed, you might be able to get it replaced by Maxtor if it's still under warranty. Unfortunately they will not recover any data on the drive for you; you must pay a data recovery specialist to recover any data on the drive, and this is expensive, so only do this if it's extremely important data.

Maxtor Can't Touch

I understand the problem you are going through and it is due to the fact that win xp sp2 install an NTFS filesytem on its hard drive and this file system was designed to be secure in a way that you don't remove disk drive or add disk drives just like that. Now the best solution would be to just reinstall you xp machine with sp2 with the hard drive already in the case.In this way xp will be able to recognize it as one of its own drives and now you will have access to it.

Help with Maxtor onetouch 4

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is a portable hard drive, with USB interface.

What you have to do is, just connect your Maxtor OneTouch 4 MiniT to the one end of USB cable, after that insert he other end to your laptop USB por.

Wait for few moments your operating system will read your new connected portable hard drive.

After that you can find a new drive letter in your My Computer, thats for your portable disk drive.

thanks
