Question about Altec Lansing AVS 500 Computer Speakers

Altec Lansing computer speakers model AVS500

Just wondering if you know whether the wiring input from the 18 volt adapter is is negative or positive? I purchased the speakers second hand and there is no indication on the side of the subwoofer whether it is a negative or positive. I've looked for the company site but unable to locate it.

Thanks,

Peter.

I'm sure your solution would have been the correct one but since posting the question I have given up on the speakers and they now reside in a land fill.

    Thanks for your effort.

    Regards,
    Tangoguy.

Look on the transformer that plugs in the AC outlet. If you don't have one to look at it says... Inside conductor is positive in the center of the connector. The outer conductor is negative.

What's the volt & amps of Altec Lansing AVS300 2.1 speaker system

Your adapter is Part No. AVX300-A6859, Model No. 9701-00748-IUND.
Or You could get a universal that is rated for output of 18volt DC, 650ma, Center Positive.
I have used a 15volt DC, 900 ma with no problem, but I never run the volume high.

Good Luck

If you are using windows media player check if your player is configured to have an echo. If it is configured remove it. If it is not configured to have an echo and if you are using any soundcard have that sound card check by an expert or by your vendor and let them check it out if it is still under warranty.

If you have a digital tester just select DC voltage then connect the positive leads of the digital tester to any of the wire coming out of the 18V adapter (WARNING do not connect to the wire connected to the main) and then the other lead of the digital tester which is the negative connected to the other wire of the 18V adaptor. If in the screen of the digital adapter reads a negative value, then it indicates that the other wire is the negative and the other is positive. Otherwise if the tester reads a positive value then your tester's leads have got the right connection.
P.S. please rate me.
