While looking for the fuse, which I could not find despite opening up the machine from the back (and vacuuming underneath--yuck!), I left the washer unplugged for about 30 min. From reading other forums and such, I realized that unplugging for a little while is often the solution because the prolonged (at least 5 min) lack of power triggers the system to reset. Sure enough, when I went back to plug it in and give up for the night, the thing worked fine. Good luck to anyone else out there!

Check to make sure that the filters in the water valves are not clogged up. Go behind the machine, turn off the water supply and disconnect the hoses on the machine side. Look inside the water valves and check the filter screens to make sure they're clean. Get a large bucket and open the water valve to clear out the hoses and make sure you have good water flow coming out of the hoses. If both of those situations are cleared up, your machine should work properly.

First thing we need to do is put the unit into test mode. 7-2. QC TEST MODE. The washer must be empty and the controls must be in the off state. Press the SPIN SPEED and SOIL LEVEL buttons simultaneously. Press the Power button, while the above condition. Then buzzer sound twice.
This is the sequence that you must do to initiate the test.
This procedure is from the service manual.
When this is done properly all of the lights should come on and the door should lock, and the buzzer should sound twice.
Status on the display should read 18:88
you may inherit a "error code" on the display....please write this code down and forward it with the other information that you have.
This may take a few times to get it. If the lights do not come on then we know the display board is bad.
Please initiate the test now and report (re-post) everything that you see and or hear.
