Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

The brushes won't work and the green shows on the 'TOOL' section, but the machine is in the upright position and should be transferring to the floor section. I have a brand new machine and have only used it once. What is the matter, and what can I do? Billie

My brush is not rotating

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC33's brush bar is not rotating. This is likely to be because the brush control on the cleaner head has accidentally set to 'Hard floors'. In this mode, the brush bar will not rotate. Please recline your machine into the vacuuming position, turn it on, and make sure the brush control is set to 'Carpets'.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, as using and replacing the wand will not have any effect on the function of the brush bar. It's also important to note that the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.

If you would like further assistance after you've checked the brush control is correctly positioned, please get in touch with us directly. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

The brushes do not disengage when in upright position

Set the brush control, as needed. The brush control turns the brushbar on the underside of the vacuum on and off. The button is located beside the power button, on the top-front of the vacuum cleaner. Turn on the brush control for cleaning carpet. Turn off the brush control for bare floors or delicatelb_icon1.png rugs..

The bare floor/carpet switch moves on it's own from bare floor to carpet all the time.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC07. When you have your brush control set to 'Carpets', the brushbar should run when the cleaner is reclined into the vacuuming position, and shut off when you stand the cleaner upright. When you have the brush control set to 'Hard floors', it should remain in the off position until you change it manually back to 'Carpets'.

If it won't stay in the 'Hard floors' position during use, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can determine if there's a fault, and recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jack

How to change belt on eureka whirlwind; what tool do I need

You will first need to remove the hood to gain access to the belt and brush roller. Turn the machine upside down, place the handle on the floor and the base on a counter. You will find several screws that hold on the hood, remove them. Turn the machine back to the upright position and remove the hood. On the right hand side,if your looking the front you will find where the belt goes. At the back you will find a silver shaft sticking out, put the new belt on there first. Then put the brush roller through the belt so it is in the carved out section of the brush roller. Then grab the brush roller by each end and stretch the belt till the brush roller fits back into the base. Turn the brush roller 3 compleat turns backwards and 3 forward to seat the belt in the proper position.
Then put back on the hood.

X1.1 model has plenty of suction through the nozzle, but doesn't 'pull' across the floor anymore or pickup dirt when using upright

Assuming that the automatic height adjuster is working properly, most likely your Sebo needs a new brush roll because the bristles on the old one are worn to the limit. To test the height adjuster, put the machine in the normal operating position (with the handle not upright) then switch on - the green "down" light may come on briefly (or may stay on if the brush is worn). Then, leaving the machine switched on, move the handle to the locked upright position - the green "up" light should come on, and you may be able to see the whole machine tilt backwards slightly as it lifts the brush off the floor. If that happens, the adjuster is working properly and you definitely need a new brush roll.
I hope this helps. If you need more guidance, just post a reply here and I'll get back to you soon. Please remember to rate this answer as I do value feedback. Good luck!

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the "on" position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

When I use my Dyson in the upright position it does not **** up the dirt on the carpet. But if I attach a tool and use the hose it does. I have checked to see if there is a blockage any where and there...

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

I would recommend checking the brush bar to see if its spinning when you switch the machine on and release the head into the vacuuming position. If its not, check the brush control dial on the head of the cleaner to ensure that when the machine is stood upright, the dial is in the centre position and not switched to the hard/smooth floor setting. When in the centre position, on releasing the head this dial should move forward to the on position and the brush bar should start turning.

If the brush bar is fine, its possible there is a blockage in the base. The Support section on our website has full diagnostics that you may find useful, please visit www.dyson.com.

I hope this information has been useful. If so, please feel free to leave us a testimonial!

Need to download the manual please.

This machine adjusts itself automatically. When you pull the handle back, there is an arm with a pin that catches the handle and automatically engages the brush mechanism and shuts off the hose. When the handle is returned to the upright position, it returns to the hose function.
As far as cleaning the machine is concerned, you can only do so much yourself. You can use a plastic tool, shaped like a ruler with an arrowhead at the one end. You insert the arrowhead end into the bottom of the clear plastic duct and then pull debris and hair out of the duct. The brushes remove with the pressing of the four plastic clips and pulling the brush assy away from the machine and then you can wash them and re-install them.

The Hoover site has a manual download available, but I'm not sure if it's working right now. The Hoover company was going bankrupt and was sold to a Chinese company and they have made massive changes to the structure of the company. Everything is a mess right now and we can only hope that with time, things will improve.
