Question about Samsung HL-S5086W 50" HDTV

1 Answer

Hello I'm having a problem with my Samsung HL-S5086W DLP TV. When it works, it works great and everything is fine. but it seems there's a loose connection or something of the sort in there somewhere that I can't find. It's happened several times now that if the TV is shifted, knocked or shaken (sometimes just a good thump on the floor is enough) it'll loose all power. All lights off the front turn off (including the light that's normally on when the TV is off) and the TV is completely unresponsive. If I shift it around or lightly shake it, it'll usually come back with a little coaxing. Any insight as to what the problem could be would be greatly appreciated. thanx Sasha

SOURCE: Samsung 50" DLP - Lamp Light Blinking after bulb replacement

Listen closely. The tv should make a high pitch whine as it turns on. If it does wait and see if it tries this a few times. If yes then check the bulb, I have seen cases where the lamp shoves the power connector back into the set. If the tv starts with a grown or heavy vibration noise, then your color wheel may have broken and needs replaced.

SOURCE: Samsung HLP6163WX/XAA DLP HDTV - lamp and noise issues

Replace the color wheel again, its gone bad again. the clicking is the ballast trying to fire the lamp. The Ballast will not fire the lamp until the color wheel has reported it has reached an RPM of around 9000rpm. This is a normal sound. Most of the time the color wheel will make a loud whining sound when bearings go bad, sounds like a Airplane using reverse thrusters when landing and a even louder sound when it shatters in the housing. Also the reason it may of gone bad so soon is because they make to versions of this color wheel, Bearing type and the Air type. I don't know who installed your color wheel, but it should of came with a small tag or paper of some sort with numbers on it. Most people throw this away when it is very important to let the unit know which type of wheel is being installed to set the parameters for either type of wheel. Most people who install colors wheels themselves to save money do not know this, and the only way to install the new settings is thru the Factory Service Mode. There are also color parameters to input for the type of wheel being used.

This is your basic Color wheel 101..
Hope I gave you some insite of what may of caused your problem...Please leave comment if more info is needed..Lavell

My tv keeps turning off right after i turn it on

I have a samsung dlp tv and had a similar problem. Fortunately, I also hava a samsung color laser printer that had a fan problem for which there was an easy fix. It turns out that the fix for the tv is the same as for the printer - oil the fans. It is really easy and takes about 15 minutes. You have to unplug the tv and remove the rear plastic plate( about 9 screws) The main fan is on the middle tray with the projection equipment. you have to remove two screws and disconnect four electronic connections to remove the tray. Then unscrew the fan holder and turn the fan over. Remove the sticker and place a little light maching oil on the axle. Give it a couple of spins and replace. Put everything back before plugging in and start the tv. It has worked great for me since.

Hello auntthumps, I have posted this eariler, it applies here so here goes: As the commercial goes, "It's the mirrors" and that is exactly what it is. The DMD (digital micromirror device) DLP chip that is the problem. The areas that are white are due to stuck or malfunctioning mirrors. This will only get more pronounced as time goes on. The fix is to replace the DLP chip and or module. I would advise that you get a qualified TV technician to do this. I hope this helps Thank you, Shuttle83
