Nintendo ds shell replacement

I replaced the shell following instructions on line. Everything went back together easily. However, when I power up, the bottom screen flashes and then just blank screens. Any suggestions. Tyler

thanks for the suggestions. I took apart the DS and followed instructions. I was elated when the DS powered up when I turned it on. However, the touch screen is not working correctly. When you type in your name, the buttons do no correspond to what you touch. Also, when you load a game, the start, select, and other buttons and touch screen aren't corresponding like they should. Is there a wire or cable that is specific for the touch area and key pads? Tyler

    Hey,

I had exactly the same issue, solution was refitting the 2 small flat cables below the ribon cable, I didn't notice the 2 miniscule black loseners at first

that lock the 2 flats in place

I however now have a minor other problem : boots perfectly, top screen behaves perfectly, touchscreen also, however the bottom screen only lights up, some stripes, but no normal image on the bottom screen

    anybody any ideas ?

    thx in advance, rgds jc

My ds did exactly this to, you probably have not pushed the wide ribbon in firmly enough wiggle it slightly from side to side to ensure it fits back snugly, I was scared of braking the ribbon but you can be quite firm with it! and make sure the clip is closed properly as if not it can come loose again. Hope this helps.

You may have something that is touchign the screen, or the wiring may have been disconnected accidentally. try taking it apart and putting it back together again.

I am replacing the shell on my ds lite and when after puting it back together the touch screen lights and works the the touch pad doesnt respond

It sounds like when you replaced the shell, you may have not reconnected the touch screen's membrane sensor. I'd open the system back up and make sure there aren't any loose or disconnected wires.

It's not easy at all. My company does repairs on PSP, XBox 360, PS3, Wii, and PS2. But we don't touch DS Lites. The following company will do it for you at a reasonable cost:

http://www.consoledude.com

They do all of our DS Lite repairs!
Also make sure you get an OFFICIAL Nintendo shell case. Some of the aftermarket ones don't fit properly. The following website sells the shells:

Touch screen wont respond

double check that both cable/ribbons are connected properly to the motherboard, the small thin ribbon which curls over the top of the motherboard is the one which powers and reads the touch screen so double check this!!
if this is all in fine then im sorry to say your touch screen is broken and will need replacing!

top screen either has a loose connection or went out all together.
I would be happy to take a look at it for you.

you are best watching a dismatling video on youtube, here is a good on but sound is foreign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dHtv9DA94g&eurl=http://www.dsfanboy.com/2006/02/20/dismantle-your-ds-in-13-minutes

A few tips:

Take care with those speakers, the connectors are very sensitive and the wires can easily break.

Take care with the screen ribbon cables and connectors on the board, the two big ribbons have connector that lift up the little ones slide outwards.

the hinge cover has a little screw near the ribbon cable dont forgot to take that off so you can extract the ribbon through the case slot and don't forgot to replace that on your new case before putting it all back together.

on the top screen the ribbon cable may be covered by a bit of sticky foam, just peal that away carefully to access the ribbon.

Watch you dont loose any buttons by tipping the case when dismantling.

In general just take care and dont attempt to turn it on whilst in bits, you could short the screen on the board and blow a fuse.

Good luck...

Power button loosely slides

Yes. The switch has broken and is replaceable. However I wouldn't recommend you do it unless you've done this before. DS Lites are easy to damage further when taking them apart. It's a great system but is easily broken beyond fixing. Look at all the posts on here from people putting new shells on and now the system won't boot up, broken ribbon cable connectors, etc. If it's under a year old contact Nintendo and they will repair it for free.
