Question about Optoma Office Equipment & Supplies

I have an Optoma H31 projector that powers on, but the lamp doesn't light. All fans work. The voltage at the lamp measures around 250 VDC at startup but quickly goes to 0 and then the fans come on. After a few seconds, the green power light flashes like it's ready to be turned on. What could be the fix for this?

I'm not sure of the age. I imagine it is a few years old though. I bought it on eBay and it said it should work, but it didn't. I tried the lamp in another projector and it lit up fine so I know the lamp is good.

    No it hasn't.

The light doesn't light at all. I put the light in another projector and it works fine in it. I also put a known good light in the H31 and it didn't light either.

If the projector doesn't come on (light) how can you set the multimedia inputs?

When the voltage goes to 250 vdc does the light light at all? Does the lamp itself, when removed, have continuity? If not, then the lamp may need replacing.

Or, the mode of the projector needs to be set so that multimedia inputs are accepted.

Good luck on this repair.

I know that sometimes the projectors have to be turned on with the input active from a laptop or a computer that you want to project an image from.

I used to observe someone using one where sometimes the projector lamp would work and sometimes it wouldn't even with the input active. I can't remember the brand though. But, usually that one would power up and show an initializaiton screen before going dead, occasionally.

    ---
I looked up the following troubleshooting on the Optoma site for the H31 unit:
    http://marketing.optomausa.com/PDFs/user...

Problem: No image appears on screen.
4 Ensure that all cables and power connections are correctly and
securely connected as described in the “Installation” section.
4 Ensure that the pins of connectors are not crooked or broken.
4 Check to see if the projection lamp has been securely installed.
Please refer to the “Replacing the Lamp” section for more
    information.
4 Make sure that you have removed the lens cap and that the
    projector is powered on.
4 Ensure that the “Hide” feature is not turned on.
Problem: Partial, scrolling or incorrectly displayed images
4 Press “Re-Sync” on the Remote Control or Control Panel.
4 If you are using a PC:
    For Windows 3.x:
    1. In the Windows Program Manager, double click the “Windows
Setup” icon in the Main group.
    2. Verify that your display resolution setting is less than or equal
    to 1280 x 1024.
    For Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP:
    1. From the “My Computer” icon, open the “Control Panel”
folder, and double click the “Display” icon.
    2. Select the “Settings” tab
    3. Click on the “Advanced Properties” button.
If the projector is still not displaying the entire image, you may
need to change the monitor display that you are using. Refer to
    the following steps.
    Troubleshooting
If you experience trouble with the projector, please refer
to the following information (listed below). If the problem
persists, contact your local reseller or service center
    immediately.

types” under the SP box; choose the resolution mode you need
    under the “Models” box.
    7. Verify that the resolution setting of the monitor display is less

4 If you are using a Notebook PC:
    1. First, follow the steps above to adjust resolution of the
    computer.
    2. Switch the Notebook PC display to the “external display only”
    or “CRT only” mode.
4 If you experience difficulty changing resolutions or your

So why don't you consider returning it and ordering a new one from the same seller?

Check the voltage at the lamp input from the ballast after connecting projector to mains supply. (Warning: Do not switch on the projector while checking the voltage. It will damage your multimeter) The lamp connection shall be removed. If the voltage is around 60 to 80 volts AC, then your ballast is OK. Check for fragments inside the lamp.

Optoma h31 stopped suddenly. I replaced the bulb, but the power button isnt flashing green, and I cant turn the unit on.

The little metal plate on the projector next to the bulb housing is not fully depressed (pressed down). The plastic cover is suppose to have a plastic piece protruding from it which is to depressed the metal plate when the cover is placed back on. If the metal piece is not pressed down, the projector will not light.

Optoma h31 was unable to power up

It can have two problems. One is that the lamp has gone out and needs replaced. Refer to your troubleshooting section in your manual. Also can be bad capacitors in the power supply circuitry or Voltage Reg. IC. Either should be left to competent repair individual.

Optoma H31 - Turns itself off !

sounds like the projector lamp to me. the rated hours are always up to the published hours and never "this is what you will achieve." I would suggest getting a lamp as you will need one shortly by the sounds of it. In many cases the projector does this as it is programmed to protect itself from the lamp shattering inside the projector. Let me know if you would like a quotation for a lamp as we ship internationally. Regards Kevin Andreassend. http://www.iceav.co.nz iceavtech@gmail.com +64-9-4142348
