It sounds to me like you have a convergence problem. Most often when it changes after warming up it is still at the point where no parts may have to be replaced. However you must not use it any more until repaired. The way to fix the set is to unplug it and remove rear cover. Find the large metal heatsink(s) that have convergence ic's mounted to them. Number on ic's usually starts with STK. Then you must get to where the pins of these chips come through the board. Use caution when handling board and mark plugs that have to be unplugged. Anyhow, on the underside of board just resolder all pins of convergence ic's and reassemble set. It's really not that difficult to do but you have to have solder and a soldering iron. Most repair shops will charge 100.00-300.00 to perform this repair so with a few supplies you can save alot. Good luck, Russmann.

Unfortunately the Optical Engine will need to be replaced to fix the problem. It is a very costly repair. Most of these Optical Blocks run around 800.00 for the part it self and labor will vary between 180.00 and 270.00.
You could try to call Sony at 1800-222-SONY
and see if they could help out with the cost.
I hope this helps,

Apex gb55108 the convergence is bad ...shows images in 3d form can not set

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

RCA 56" projection TV screen too large

What type of connection are you using on the Cable box and X-box?I would Recommend to use the Component(Red,Green,Blue+Red/White-Audio)Plug that several manufacturers make for the X-box360.If your cable box does not have those connectors,you will need to upgrade to a box that does and put settings to 1080i on both of them.Your television has 2 sets of components on back(synchroscan) and it will auto-detect the settings of the inputs and should work fine after that.

Heres how you get into the service menu. BUT be very careful write down anything that you change as this can screw your set up and if you write down everything you will be able to change it back if it affects your set. You may want to consider getting the service manual which will explain all the details on the convergence adjustments. If so let me know and I will post a link where you can get one along with free tech support to help you out with it.
Put the TV in Standby Mode.
  • Then press the following buttons on the remote:

    {DISPLAY} {5} {VOL+} {POWER}
    or
    {DISPLAY} {5} {POWER}
    or
    {DISPLAY} {5} {PICTURE} {POWER}
    or
    {DISPLAY} {5} {VOL+} {PICTURE} {POWER}

  • The TV will turn on with the Service Menu displayed.

  • Use numbers {1} and {4} to select the item to adjust.
  • Use numbers {3} and {6} to adjust the value of the data.
  • Press {MUTE} then {ENTER} to save new settings.
  • The words "WRITE" in red will show up in the upper right corner if saved.
  • Turn the TV off to exit the service menu.

    Your Convergence is off. Go through the menue to the CONVERGENCE and follow the on screen instructions.

    Start with the RED gun and align each cross point starting with the upper left corner.

    You will be pulling the red to match the green.

    If the television shuts down during this process, it will reset the convergence and you can try again.

    After you get the red gun perfectly aligned with the green, start with the blue.

    follow the on screen directs and don't forget to store.

    Use the remote for these adjustments.

    I hope that this helps..
