qediminas kl, Problem may be with unit internal "switch-mode-power-supply"!!! Your "solution" is to open unit and inspect power-supply-board for swollen, leaky, electrolytic filter capacitors that may be causing the symptom you described. Go to YOUTUBE for video clips of owners/technicians doing "cheap" but lasting fixes to this type of problem. Also poke around in the FIXYA PROFILES of "budmrtn" and "12fixlouie" . Lots of information all over the web on "black screen of death" which your monitor may or may not be suseptable to. Good luck with repair. 12fixlouie

You may have logic board problem dur to bad EEPROM, or unstable power supply for the logic board due to bad caps.

Monitor keeps shuutting down after turning on....., then goes off into a blinking mode...then have to restart and then doesn't work after a few minutes.... then have to restart again and cycle starts...

Hello there.
This sounds like it is a problem with your monitor cable or with your computer graphics card. Try using your monitor on another computer. If the monitor works fine, i recommend getting a new cable. If the monitor is not working if you connect it to a different computer, then the issue is with the hardware of the monitor and it should be taken to a service location. If the monitor and cable is working fine, the it looks like the computer is having problems sending the video information to the monitor which means that your graphics card might be faulty. At this point you should take your computer into a service location.
I hope this helps. Thumbs up are always appreciated.

When i switch on the monitor the on/off button blinks and i don't get a picture. johanalvemalm@people.net.au

Most monitors will behave that way if they don't get a signal from the computer so there's nothing to display. A quick check of the monitor itself is to disconnect the signal cable from the computer and then turn the monitor on. Most monitors will display some kind of a message that there's no input and to check your cable connection. Then the power indicator changes color as the monitor blanks out.

You will probably find that your computer isn't starting up when you turn on the power. A common computer problem is that it will turn on when you press the power button, showing a power light and you'll hear the fans inside start running, but it never actually starts running. Then there's no video to the monitor and you see the trouble you described.

The monitor may still be bad. If everything seems to be starting normally and you hear the Windows startup sound through your speakers, but the display stays blank, try another monitor. If that one works, you'll need to have the bad one serviced or replace it. If the test monitor is also blank, the video circuitry in your computer has failed. If the video is built into the motherboard, you can install a plug-in video card as a replacement.

If the computer is turning on but never starts running, that can be a pain to figure out because several things can cause the trouble. The most frequent causes are a bad power supply or motherboard. Bad RAM or a defective drive or other device connected to the motherboard can also keep the board from starting up. The processor itself can fail, but that's not common. I start by removing everything except for the power supply, processor and fan to see if the motherboard is starting. If the motherboard doesn't give a "no memory" error (usually a long beep), you need a power supply or motherboard. Otherwise, the basic hardware is fine, and you can start replacing parts until the trouble comes back, and then you'll know what caused it.

Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

2. Then you can try to swap another monitor to your PC. When it becomes ok. then the problem is in your monitor. need to checkup the monitor.

How do we turn off the POWER SAVING MODE on the monitor screen?

Try going into your Start Menu then going into your control panel...then clicking on your "power options"....then switching the options to 'always on'..if this does not work..(as it seems you may not be seeing this because the monitor is in power saving mode) try fiddling with the setup option on your monitor and find a possible powersaving mode enabled function and disable it. every monitor is different so I couldn't really help you here...if this doesn't yield results try another monitor to see if it's the monitor having the problems or the computers video card...the video card could very well be the culprit...

Viewsonic VA712b 17 " flat screen monitor

Realheadache, Unusual problem, it could be the resolution and refresh rate setting your PCs video card is currently set at. I don?t know if this will fix your problem but its worth a try: - Now go to your PC with the old monitor connected, right click anywhere on the desktop. - Left click Properties from the box that appears. - When the Display Properties box appears click on the Settings tab. - Make note of the screen resolution. - Change the screen resolution to 1024 x 768. - Click on the Advanced button in the lower right hand corner. - In the next box that appears click on the Monitor tab. - In the Monitor settings section of this page record the value of the Screen refresh rate. Then change it to 60 Hertz. - Close this and the Display Properties box by click on the OK button. - Now try connecting your new monitor. Let us know if this helps and as always please don?t forget to rate this posting.

Next time you get it running, right click my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look for your monitor on the 'Monitors' '+' sign and right click>delete. Also check 'Display adapter' see if the correct driver is displayed. Re- boot and let Windows re-install monitor driver(it should list it as 'Sony')
