Every time you turn on your printer, it goes through a print head cleaning routine and the print head nozzles flush all the inks into the cleaning pads. This is why the inks are levels are dropping even though you have not printed anything.
Hi there. i understand that you want to clean the printhead of your canon pixma mp780, dont worry im here to help you out with this. do this following steps in order for you to clean the printhead. If the printed Nozzle Check Pattern is broken, missing, or a specific color is not printed, clean the print head.
Press the <Menu> button on the printers operation panel repeatedly until [MAINTENANCE] appears in the LCD.
Press the left [<] or right [>] arrow buttons to select the cleaning setting you want. Select [HEAD CLEANING] or [HEAD REFRESHING] for deep print head cleaning.
Take Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary ok?
Press the <OK> button.
Print a Nozzle Check Pattern and perform at least two Head Refreshings if the pattern is not correct.
hope that this steps helped you a lot in cleaning the printhead of your printer.Good Luck!
I had the same problem on my pixma mp780. I cleaned the printer head. it worked for about a year, but then i had to replace the printer head. after you clean or replace it reboot it.
I think you are seeing "ERROR 5100: Cartridge Jammed", right?. Here is the most likely solution to this issue with your printer. The following procedure comes directly form Canon
ERROR LCD: CARTRIDGE JAMMED
You can buy a new printhead, if that is the problem. did you try printing after the machine cooled down? Try going on eBay and search for an MP780 printhead...it should cost about $50-60 or about $60-85 elsewhere, check Canon too. Possibly, a cleaning kit might unclog anything plugged, though a electrical problem is probably fixed only with a new head. New heads snap in to the printer...Good Luck!
Hi. the problem is the print head, maybe is clogged or damage, try this remove the cartridges , and the print head and submerge the print head in hot water for 3 minutes, dry the print head and reinstall it, if problem persist replace the print head.
