Hello,

Based on gas prices, often gas hot water heaters can be a more cost-effective option than electric models and preferred by many homeowners. However, gas hot water heater models can have their own set of problems that differ from electric versions. You will not find it difficult to perform some basic troubleshooting to resolve an issue with a gas hot water heater.

Instructions

  1. 1 Determine if the gas supply has been shut off. No gas will cause the hot water heater to stop producing hot water. Turning the gas supply back on should be your first troubleshooting technique.
  2. 2 Check the pilot light. If you are experiencing no hot water, the pilot light of your gas hot water heater may have distinguished. Turn off the gas source and place a match over the pilot light tube to relight it.
  3. 3 Adjust the thermostat of your hot water heater. If you find that the hot water runs out quickly or does not get hot enough, you may need to set the temperature of the gas hot water heater higher. Typically, set the dial between the medium and hot setting for adequate hot water.
  4. 4 Inspect the gas hot water heater. The burner orifice and flue can both become clogged on a hot water heater. Turn off the gas and use a wire brush to clean out any debris that may have become lodged in these sections.
  5. 5 Ensure that all the burner access covers are in place. If the pilot light will not stay lit, it could be due to exposure to drafts.
  6. 6 Flush the tank. Certain deposits can build up over time when using a gas hot water heater which can cause the tank to produce a banging noise. To flush it, turn the heater off and open the pressure relief valve and drain valve on the water heater. Use a hose to flush water through the system until the hose runs clear.

Thanks.

SOURCE: Water coming from showerhead and bath spout at same time

Have whoever installed the shower set come back and fix the diverter. It should be a relatively simple adjustment.

We have no hot water coming out of our bathtub faucet. We took it all apart and water is only coming our of the cold side of the pipe

there is probably a shutoff on the rough-in valve in the wall. Sometimes the seal in that comes apart and blocks the water. Get new stem for valve. Unscrew the nut, replace stem, tighten nut. Clean inside valve before u put new one in.

You have purchased a scald guard faucet, that you will have to set for your own house. If you take off the handle and face plate and look down there should be a plastic part (usually a deep blue) with teeth. It restricts the hot water side of the unit. If you pull it out and rotate (about halfway) you should have water flow. If it is still not hot enough rotate it more, or less.

We have a Moen tub/shower faucet and when turned to the hot water position no water comes out at all. We feel like this is an issue with the valve but aren't sure how to replace it.

the valve has a cartridge that controls hot and cold water mixing. 21-t2opdcnl._sl500_aa300_.jpg the valve at one time had a smaller spindle built into the valve to prevent scolding. this item is located in the right hand side of the valve behind the plate next to the cold shut off valve. there is also a hot shut off valve located on the right hand side of the valve. Most times it is the cartridge itself and this can be found at all hardware stores.
here is a link that shows ALL THE TUB/ SHOWER VALVES PARTS.

Possibly switch off hot and cold water then undo cold water flange closest to the outlet and see if water comes out.if it does, tap assembly is faulty. If not, go back to where next available connection to the pipe was made. Work back untill you find the problem.

I just bought a repo house which has a grundfos circulation pump u p 15 installed at the water heater. House built 2005 4260 sq. Feet. House has 4 showers only one of them gets hot water. All sinks get hot...

that pump is likely to be a hot water return pump not a booster pump. it sound like a large property so its likely the hot water system requires balancing to get the hot water to the extreme areas. If all the hot outlets have some form of isolation valve try closing all but the affected areas and see if hot water comes out. If so only open the closed outlets enough to give you reasonable flow. This hopefully will force the hot water to the affected areas.

My shower is running cold water only, the rest of house has hot water

sounds like you have a single lever shower, in this case the valve stem which mixes the hot and cold has a clogged hot side , you'll need to remove and replace the cartridge or valve stem
