Your system maybe having a hard time accessing on your boot up drive, going into bios and setting up the hard drive with an operating system intalled on first boot may fix your problem.

SOURCE: does boot up

If you are getting the underscore in the upper left corner of the screen the laptop is not froze, however it cannot find an OS (Operating system- aka windows) This leaves us with 2 possible options:
1. Your system (Bios) has changed boot priority

  • Depending on your computer you may get a prompt to press a key to change the boot order, if this is the case make sure your C: drive is selected, or Hard disk drive as it is a laptop you should only have one.
  • If you do not get a prompt for a boot priority screen you will have to enter the BIOS or system setup, this is ussaly done by pressing "Delete" or "F2" when you first boot up you will see the screen and it will tell you what key to press. Go into the bios and look for the boot priority settings and make sure your hard drive is at the top of your list
2. Your computer's hard drive has been corrupted and you may have to reinstall the OS.

When i turn on laptop, i get blank screen with blinking curser and can not do anything

This indicates a hard drive issue or windows files have been corrupted, try a full recovery of windows, if you have the backup disc all the better, if not power the computer, wait for acer logo press ALT key and tap F10 until it goes into recovery, if nothing happens have your hardware tested.

Black screen with blinking curser in upper left

how long did you wait? sometimes on first boot after recovery it take a few minutes. if you don't get any error messages i'd wait and see, if you wait for a long time and nothing happens reboot and try to do the recovery again.

Only getting blank screen on start up with blinking curser in top right hand corner

Windows can't boot, either because it was corrupted or the hard disk died. Reinstall and if the problem returns then replace the hard disk.

When i turn on laptop screen oes blank but can see curser

Do you see the acer splash screen before you get the black screen with the curser? If so it is more than likely a windows problem. Boot from your XP disk and select R when prompted to repair. Once in the repair console type the following:

chkdsk /r

When it is finished (will take about an hour) then type exit to restart the computer.

Hope this helps

Blank screen blinking curser at top left

i would have it serviced. the biggest problem people face is waiting to fix something and the warranty is out. i would keep testing to see if it does it again. when it does, send it in and get whatever is causing it fixed. or just work your heart away and risk it crashing when you least expect it. better to be safe then sorry, the error you are telling me about seems like a motherboard or hard drive related issue

Good Luck!

Toshiba EA60 laptop wont go in boot sequance, its stop after toshiba logo and gives a black screen with blinking curser in top lef corner

Its probably not the BIOS but the board warping beneath the CPU Socket or similar.. Dont flash it (BIOS) or it will probably kill the chip. Let me look up the model number...
