Just move the cursor to safe mode then press enter. The PC will then load up everything one thing at a time. If you end up fully loaded you can then, shut it down and start it normally. The computer will tell you of any problems, during safe mode start up.

E machines desktop - 2 years old. Starts to boot up - ''windows is loading files'' - gets to the end of the load bar then switches off - same place every time

start computer, start tapping F8 key til you get to the Windows Advanced Option. select safemode. then enter. if you can login to your desktop with no problem and it doesn't shut down it can be a virus on your computer. I suggest reinstalling Windows xp. If it still shuts down then you have a hardware issue and you should bring it to a computer technician. hope that helps

Windows XP professional loop

Glad to hear you have your OS disc handy... let's try this:

Insert your XP CD and when it asks if you want to boot from the CD, press any key (ENTER) to do so. When asked, press ENTER ("To setup Windows XP now") and follow these steps...

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press "R"
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press "F3".
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. DO NOT choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console". You Do Not want to load the Recovery Console.
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press "R" to start the repair.
((Note: If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read Warning#2! ))

Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and at some point the system will reboot. When this happens, you want to now allow the system to boot from the hard disk but leave the CD in the drive. So do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Hope that helps.
Good luck!
