Question about Computers & Internet
If it wants to reformatted it's not fried likely. run scandisk first to determine actual damage and look for some recovery softwares. video and picture recovery specific ones preferrably if you wish the pictures most of all.
does it make a ticking noise? if so, only one chance i know of. vacume seal it and put it into a freezer. this will make the metal inside contract and perhaps pull the arm back onto the disk inside. make sure when you take it out that the room is warm and dry. not humid! you won't have much time when you plug it in, work fast.

The theory to unformat a Mac hard disk is, when you format a Mac HFS+/HFSX Volume or format a external hard disk, the data are not really wiped. Format process just marked your Mac hard disk as available to reuse, no matter it is quick format or complete format. So if you put if you fill in a mount of new data to your hard drive, then the formatted data are overwritten, your will permanently lose your formatted data.
