Question about McCulloch Garden

1 Answer

I had this saw tuned up a few years ago and put it away. I added new fuel (40 to 1 mix) took out the spark plug and checked the gap.025 and didn't even have to clean it. I set the choke to full, made sure the on/off switch was up, latched the trigger and set the brake to off. I then pulled the start rope several times, nothing. Moved the choke to 1/2 and pulled several times, not even a pop. fuel seems to be coming out of the bottom. (like it's flooded) . Took the plug out, dried it, heated it, cleared the flood and tried again. Not a pop or anything. Thanks in Advance. P.S. This saw is approx 10-15 years old and has seen very limited use, probably 2-5 hours lifetime. The air filter is clean and dry. The spark plug is listed in the manual as:301149-33. What is the short number for this plug?

I don't know the plug number. Off the shelf chain saw plug from small engine repair shop will replace existing plug.

First of all, are you getting spark?
Take out plug. Put spark wire on plug. Hole plug by spark wire. Touch metal threads of spark plug to metal part of engine block. Metal to metal. Pull cord. Look for spark between metals. If there is no spark, then spark coil is bad.

Look at exhaust port. Is there anything that would stop the exhaust from escaping?

Can you get to fuel line running into carburetor? See if gas makes it all the way to the carburetor.

Can you get to the air filter? Is it dirty? Can you spray WD-40 directly into carburetor. A saw that has good exhaust, spark and compression will fire on WD-40.

If your engine can fire on WD-40, but will not stay running, then carburetor is suspect. Maybe gum out will work. Try to keep the engine going on WD-40 and see if that opens the carburetor.

If you can keep engine going on WD-40, that takes both hands ... use your third hand to move choke and throttle levers and see if the engine can start on its own.

Upvote if this information helps. Thanks for the feedback.

take the carby in for overhaul and new diaphragm kit fitted
the main diaphragm is hard and not sealing on the holes so it is not pumping fuel
40: 1 or 50: 1 is alright and the gap is .020-.025"

why I say that is that stihl use an oil that mixes as 50:1 but it is suitable for the full range of ratios in the stihl range of engines
makes no difference what brand of engine , the ratio is to ensure enough oil to lubricate the bearings and cylinders

Spark plug gap should be: 0.020" and the fuel to oil ratio is 40:1. Be sure to use fresh fuel and a modern synthetic saw oil available at home centers, hardware stores, and saw dealers. Mix well in it's own container and be sure to shake the container thoroughly each time just before filling the tank to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

Homelite ut 10695 spark plug gap, gas oil ratio?

Gap the plug at 0.020", and the fuel to oil ratio is 50:1. Be sure to use a modern synthetic saw oil, fresh fuel, and mix in it's own container (don't make up more than a gallon at a time unless your business is sawing). Be sure to shake the container thoroughly each time just before adding fuel mix to the tank to prevent oil starvation. Hope this helps!

Will not run at high speed and install new plug and change gas and clean carb

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of all fuel lines. Make sure your 50:1 fuel mix is fresh and thoroughly shaken just before adding to tank each time. The spark plug gap is 0.020". I'm assuming that you did not disturb the H an L jet settings. Hope this helps!

Craftsman chainsaw 18" 42cc doesn't start

Remove the spark plug and test for spark. If nothing, try a new plug set to 0.020" gap. If ok, put a small mount of fuel mix in the plug hole and try to start. If you get several pops, then check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for rot or damage. Make sure to use fresh fuel premix (40:1) using modern synthetic saw oil in it's own can and shake thoroughly just before filling each time. If you got no spark in the first test, expose the flywheel and ignition module. Remove the wire from the module that goes to the ignition switch and check for spark. If still nothing, replace the module using a thin business card for a gap gauge between the module poles and the flywheel magnets. If you did get spark, then investigate the ignition switch and wire for possible grounding. Hope some of this helps!

Craftsman 2 cycle leave blower will not start

That fuel/oil mix ratio should be 32to1 or 32 ounces gasoline to 1 ounce oil. You will have to make up a new mix and probably clean the fuel system and the spark plug before it will start.
