Question about Canon PIXMA iP90 Mobile Printer

3 Answers

My Ip90 prints fine except it is very hard to read because it is now so faint I can hardly see it. I changed both ink cartridges but it didn't change anything. What could be causing this? Thanks for your help

I'm using exel, same as always. I've been printing using this software for about 7 years. It started printing so lightly recently that I can hardly read it. Not good for business invoices. It printed fine again for just 5 or 6 invoices after the problem started, then went back to coming out so light, it's not readable.

  • billmackinno Oct 16, 2010

Well, you are on to something.
It is about the software because it is printing fine except for when I use excel.
This is a first for me.
I've look for something in Exel to adjust but I don't know what it would be.
Printing fine now except when I need an invoice out of Excel.

Yes, many times and for some reason I can't get it to print dark enough to read easily. It only has a problem running Exel.

Hi! You may want to start running the CLEANING process. It may be clogged that's why you get a poor print out. Please do try this procedure. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FIxYa!

This sounds like you need to run a cleaning cycle on your printer- usually in an inkjet's printer driver, it has an option to run a cleaning cycle. Basically it sounds like the nozzles in your printer have become clogged- so the ink is not flowing through.
Referring to your printer's user guide- do the following to do a deep cleaning
1 Ensure that the printer is turned on.

2 Open the Printer Properties dialog box.

See Opening the Printer Properties Dialog Box Directly from the Start Menu

3 Start Print Head Deep Cleaning.

(1) Click the Maintenance tab.

(2) Click Deep Cleaning.

(3) Select the Print Head to be cleaned, and then click Execute.

Note

Click the Initial Check Items button. Confirmation message for Print Head Deep Cleaning is displayed.

(4) When the confirmation message is displayed, click OK.

Print Head Deep Cleaning starts when the POWER lamp starts blinking.

Important

Do not perform any other operations until Print Head Deep Cleaning is completed (about two to three minutes).

4 Check the Print Head condition.

(1) Print a nozzle check pattern to check the Print Head condition.
For details, refer to Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern.

(2) If the problem persists, perform step 3 again.

(3) If the problem persists, the printer may have run out of ink.
For details, refer to Replacing an Ink Tank.

(4) If the problem persists, a Print Head may be damaged. In this case, contact a Canon service representative.

That was for Windows systems- here's the one for Macs

1 Ensure that the printer is turned on.

2 Open the BJ Printer Utility dialog box.

Note

The BJ Printer Utility cannot be used with Bluetooth communication.

(1) Double-click the hard disk icon where the printer driver was installed, the Applications folder, and then the Utilities folder.

(2) Double-click the Printer Setup Utility icon.
If you are using an OS other than Mac OS X v.10.3, double-click the Print Center icon.

(3) Select iP90 from the Name list and click Utility or Configure.

(4) Select iP90 from the Product list and click Maintenance.

3 Start Print Head Deep Cleaning.

(1) Select Cleaning from the pop-up menu.

(2) Click Deep Cleaning.

(3) Select the Print Head to be cleaned, and then click OK.

Print Head deep cleaning starts when the POWER lamp starts blinking.

Other than that, it's the same warnings as in the windows instructions-

Hope this helps you out!

Hold a piece of tissue under the ink jets and see if the tissue draws ink out of the cartridge. If not the cartridge is blocked or empty. If ink does come out there may be a faulty contact on the cartridge or printer. Try swap out the cartridge with a known working one and see if that works.

yeah it sounds like a cartridge sensors are stuck or broken. i would say to replace the whole print unit. It will need a service support dealer to fit this part unless you can buy it and fir it yourself.

hope this helps

Canon IP90 portable . No ink printing.

Have you performed a nozzle test? If one or more of the colors is missing when you do the nozzle test, the printhead itself is likely in need of replacement.

Before considering replacment, perform a clean on the printer. Due to variations between mac and pc, please see your documentation / support files on how to perform the clean on your printer.

After performing the clean, again perform the nozzle check to see if the problem is resolved.

If still not resolved, remove and re-install any cartridges you recently replaced to make certain they are installed correctly.

Good Day: Although it is a common presumption that alcohol is always a good cleaner, in this case water without soap is the best. Did you say that you changed the cartridge or just the "Ink-Tank"? The cartrisge holds both the color and the black ink tanks. You can actually take the ink tanks out of the cartridge and submerse the cartridge in warm water and find that after you blow dry it gently with a can of aerosol "Dust-Off" that you can reinstall the ink tanks and then reinstall the cartridge in the printer and usually this works fine. Soak time is about 45-90 min and not in hot water only luke-warm water.

Humble Regards
